Does the remote signal toggle between those 2 codes ? I happend to know that some philips (or all ??) remotes alternate between 2 different codes to differentiate between repeat/2 presses. Maybe technics uses the philips protocol. (rc5)

I used to use that same infrared receiver and had the same problem. You need to find a setting for your universal remote that sends "simple" commands. If you scan through the different setups, you can usually find one that sends one-byte codes. That should help you out.
On a side note, I would suggest upgrading to an Irman or UIR device. The FastMedia receiver works by toggling one of the RS-232 lines (maybe CD, RTS, CTS or one of those I can't remember which one off the top of my head). This means the software has to detect remote commands by constantly polling the receiver, probably several hundred times a second. This degrades performance on your computer, and if the polling software can't get to the device in time, data will fall off and that's probably why you get different results every time you press a button. With an Irman or UIR the device only requests CPU bandwidth when a button is pressed on the remote, and it will hold the data until your computer is ready to process it (resulting in no data loss).

I saw on a remote control website once, that some remotes do that. They do it because it forces you to use their remote and not a universal. Thus, they get replacement cost money. The TV/VCR/Etc.. actually is made to get the codes like that..

Hey guys.. I have a Packard Bell FastMedia remote working on my comp through Girder right now. The infrared sensor picks up any infrared signal from any IR remote.
I've noticed that with certain buttons on other remotes, it seems to send a different code to Girder everytime it is pushed. For instance, the forward button on my new Technics remote will send a code like 800B006 one time and the next time I push it the code might be 1C0080C01.
Why is this? Is there a certain driver I need to get to use these types of remotes? I would like to use my Technics Universal remote that came with my new receiver because the computer it is hooked up on is being used solely as an MP3 machine hooked up to the stereo system.

Get Igor's Plug in named SFH 56 and set the setting to receive DCD, that's what I use and I have a PB Receiver using a Jensen Universal Remote without any problems.
