Hi
Sorry if this had been done to death before but cant find anything anywhere..

I just want to setup Netremote & Girder on my HTPC with my iPaq 112 classic as the controller.

What exactly do I need, please be specific, parts, model No's etc.

I Have: 1 x Netgear WG111 USB to WiFi adapter plugged into HTPC.
PDA has built in Wifi.
But: cant get them to communicate.
I just what to connect somehow HTPC with PDA with WiFi & run NR/girder - THATS IT!.

Just tell me what I need.
Or can peaple..someone just give my a list of what is working for them. eg, VPN, adhoc, WiFi card, adapter? hub, switch..??? wired link ?, what type, etc.
I cant get ANYTHING working here.

Thanks HEAPS in advance.

This is what I've got..

Simply a:
PC pent 4 connected to nothing. (My HTPC)
A NetGear WG111 USB/WiFi adapter.
An iPaq 112 PDA with built-in WiFi

Tried everything, adhoc, static IP's.. wont connect.
On pc, the ipconfig /all says the autoconfiguration Enabled = Yes, its IP Address: 169.254.11.53

My PDA: similar.. 169.254.??..
THEY CAN PING !!! each other but that it.
* although sometimes the IP seems to go, then come back then go..
Netremote/tools/properties/media bridge...test etc fails, correct IPs used.

I just wnat to connect the 2, can this be done, hve others done it??
How do others do it???
Or do I need more hardware, an AP on my linux network (which I dont even need for HTPC)??

Thanks again..regards.

Dude, before you try too hard with NetRemote etc, i suggest you try to get ActiveSync or SyncCentre working between your HTPC and PDA - if you can't them them communicating then you're off to a bad start before you even try with NetRemote or MediaBridge.

I have Vista64Premium and HTC Tytn and an HTC Trinity and it all works luvverly - sorry to brag ;)

OK mbarne36, so what gear are you running?
I will just run the same.

Sorry mate, I didn't have to do anything else particular.

I just entered the Computer Name into the Host name field of the "Default Host" tab, and hey presto.

I don't suppose you have firewall problem do you think? I have AVG and VistaFirewall all up and running and it didn't cause me any problems, but when I was researching NetRemote I tried a few competitors and most of them wouldn't run through my network (similar to your problem really).

Sorry couldn't help further...

Are you running a standard modem with built-in router/f-wall/switch with WiFi or sep componants?
Or is it a single comp?
Does your PDA send to a wifi card, usb adapter or other??
Brand names???

At least I cant complain about the NetGear support.. because there is NONE! :D
(eg: cant complain about nothing)

Thanks for your help guys...
I WILL nail this one (I AWAYS win) its just a matter of time...
