I'm using a windows hook : WH_SHELL. Reading through the docs they don't mention that we have to use the explorer.exe. Maybe the alternative shell doesn't pass this hook correctly ??? Just a wild guess.

One could hook all messages and find the WM_CREATE and WM_DESTROY, BUT this is by no means a indicator if a program existed, it just says that the window was created or closed.

Hello everyone,

Here's another question:

Does the task create plugin require anything besides girder to be running. The reason that I ask is that I've been currently running a computer that doesn't use explorer.exe as the shell, and girder had been working fine until I started playing with the Task Create plugin. I finally got the plugin to work for me, and it was working great under Windows with explorer as the shell, but take that away, and I start having trouble. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Jeff

Thank you very much Ron, that is the exact(!) answer that I needed!!! Explorer.exe uses WH_SHELL, and if you eliminate explorer, WH_SHELL is no longer used. I'll start working on a fix :D

Thank you for your quick reply,
Jeff

Are there any other workarounds for detecting when a program has started or ended other than the Task Create Plugin. Before I set out to work on it, I'd rather not reinvent the wheel.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Here's another idea...

I launch the main application from my own. Is there a way that I can send Girder a command or switch while it is running that it can catch, and then I can use that to enable/disable groups rather than task create. Since I use Girder to shut that program down, I don't need to detect the closing of the program just the starting.

Any ideas for this?

Thanks again,
Jeff

You have made my day!!!!

Thanks again for such a wonderful program. I don't know if I've ever seen tech support so responsive for any other program.

You ROCK!
