View Full Version : Girder 5 connection to ELK M1

This is my first post to the forum. This week I downloaded the free trial version of Girder 5 along with the ELK plug-in to try before I buy it. It appears to be a very capable system at a reasonable price. I have not however been able to completely connect to my M1. I have the latest versions of all ELK firmwares installed. Also, I have 2 TS07 panels running.

When Girder tries to connect to the M1, it starts discovery but it never completes. I am connecting using the non-secure port 2101 that the TS07's use. I do not have any users names and codes set up for the M1XEP. The TS07's do require a user code to connect. Also the virtual keypad in the from the M1XEP requires a user code to connect. The ELK plug-in for Girder does not have a place to enter a user code. I think the M1 is looking for a user code to allow a connection to Girder and complete discovery.

So my question is, how do you get it to connect and complete discovery. I guess I must be missing something.

Thanks for your help!
Boomer

Welcome to the forum Boomer!
I had a similar problem described here (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18786). I'm not sure what TS07's are , but if you want to connect through the M1XEP, you're on the right track using the non-secure port 2101. Just make sure the host IP in the Elk M1/EZ8 Component Manager settings match that of the M1XEP. It does NOT need a user code. But as a side note, to connect to the M1XEP with the Elk Virtual Keypad, you need to have at least one user set up and use that user code to connect.

Thanks for the reply. The TS07's are ELK touch panels running ELKRM software. I had read the thread you referenced before posting. The IP settings are the same in the component manager and the ELK and I am using port 2101. I also terminated the TS07 connections to see if that was an issue. It was not. Girder shows "Status: Connection to panel established" then changes to "Status: OK[starting discovery]. The discovery never completes. I have also unpowered and repowered the M1XEP to reset it. Any other thoughts?

Thanks again!

Boomer,

A 2nd welcome to the forums.

I am upgrading my panel to the latest firmware to check the plug-in with it. I will report back soon.

I was holding off on this until I had more time to add some of the new features of the new firmware.

One other thing to try, redownload the plug-in from the download section and reinstall. Another user experienced problems with a corrupt download.

Another thing.

In ElkRP under Globals->Special-Serial Port 0, make sure all items are checked.

Thanks for the support. All the globals are checked for the ELK - the need to be for the TS07 panels. Also downloaded and reinstalled the ELK plugin too (version 1.0.0 is what I've been getting). FYI, Girder shows "Status: Connection to panel established" then changes to "Status: OK[starting discovery]. The discovery never completes. I have also unpowered and repowered the M1XEP to reset it. Also checking the LUA console there are a large number of "node" listed.

Can you copy/paste the Lua Console here? What version and build of Girder?

Do you have ElkRP connected to the panel when running the plug-in. If so disconnect ElkRP and try again. While ElkRP is connected the Elk will ignore any responses from the plug-in.

Rick:
No, ELKRP is not running. The only connections to the M1 panel are from the TS07 touch screens. I have also tried it with them disconnected. There was no difference.

One thing I just saw. I was looking at the settings tab > plugins tab. The ELK plugin is not showing as a plugin although it is listed in the component manager and is enabled. Don't know it this means anything.

In ElkRP under M1XEP Setup, can you verify that the Enable Non-Secure Port is checked?

Boomer

Yes it is checked.

Can you upgrade to the latest version of Girder, I think it is 540.

The settings tab > plugins is for legacy plug-ins. The Elk only shows in the Component Manager.

I installed build 540 and reinstalled the ELK plugin 1.0.0. Still the same, discovery starts but doesn't complete. I really appreciate all your help today!!

More questions.

1. What OS is Girder running on?
2. Is there a firewall on the Girder PC? If so, disable it.
3. Can you try a telnet session to the M1XEP and see if it connects? Start->Run telnet <ipaddress> 2101

Girder is running in Vista Ultimate. Firewall is disabled. I was able to Telnet into the panel under port 2101. There is the telnet response

Looks like the connection is good.

Look in the c:\Documents and Settings\<CurrentUserName>\Application Data\Promixis\Girder\5\logs folder. There should be an ElkM1EZ8 2008-10-4.log file. Could you attach that file to a post?

Here is the log file. I had to split it.

Thanks

First, completely shutdown Girder and restart it.

Second, can we take this to MSN Messenger? If so, my address is harley985 @ hotmail.com.

Rick:
Thanks again for all your help. Unfortunately I don't have time now to IM you due to a commitment tonight. I will be around tomorrow and will try to hookup with you then on msn.

Thanks much!

FYI for anyone reading this thread, Rick (Harleydude) spent a good bit of time trouble shooting this issue and found that the buffer size for the plugin needed to be increased due to the number of zone & lighting controls I have. I'm sure it will be permanently increased in future releases.

harleydude

Yes it will be. I am also working on some other additions and fixes to the plug-in.

They will be released soon.

Way to go Rick. I am extremely interested in this thread as I have a HUGE Elk implementation - 193 zones that I am about to embark on. When will that buffer increase be available or can you document the change here ?

Rick, I connected Girder to the Elk M1 configuration that I had told you about that is mated to a builtin DigiOne PortServer on a very large implementation of the Elk and it connected. It then went through Discovery and completed that phase without a problem. All zones showed up as expected.

Thanks for your help. Nice piece of software.

That's great. I am in the process of rolling up a new version of the plugin. Should be out later this week, it is in final testing.

I had hoped to release the version before the Thanksgiving holidays but had to make a few changes. Then got busy with a kitchen remodel that needed to be done before Christmas. Things are almost back to normal and hope to post the new version this weekend.
