psc, Welcome to Girder. Great news that you are writing/wrote a plugin. I'm sure there are a lot of people that are interested in this plugin! If you want to make the plugin available let me know, I can host it here.

Hi psc,
Thanks for trying to make the Hauppauge WinTV work with Girder.
Let me explain why I would be very interested in a driver NOT making use of the Hauppauge drivers/dll's. These drivers have ACPI problems, which means that if you have them installed Windows2000/XP will refuse to go into standby mode, or will crash when coming out of standby.
Therefore I do not have them installed but instead use the tweaked drivers by Ivan Uskov (www.iulabs.com). However, these drivers are not compatible with the IRRemote software from Hauppauge. Hence the need for a completely separate driver, probably I2C-base but I do not know much about these things.
Hopefully you will find it interesting to explore this possibility. Maybe it would be useful to have a look at the lirc code under linux, because there the remote works perfectly.
Thanks and good luck,
Didi

I'ld really like to testdrive your hauppauge plugin... (ahoeben@mail.com)
My config: winXP, (pal) wintv pci fm (seperate connection for receiver plug)
One thing I would be especially interested in is support for other remotes. My (philips) tv listens to the same RC5 code the hauppauge remote uses (so now I have two remotes for my tv ;-(( ).
In the original hauppauge irremote.ini there are two lines to set a mask for the incoming signals. By fooling around with those values, I got the original app to respond to a number of signals my TV doesn't react to. It's just that I don't have a clue what codes exactly are being sent/received.
A small (debug) app that just outputs any code received (without any filtering) would be handy too ;-)

I would love to try your plugin on my system (AMD Athlon 1.4GHz, Windows XP Pro, 256MB RAM, WinTV Primio FM with a separate connection for the r/c), as I am very frustrated with the current status of the IRRemote application that came with the card. Sometimes it seems to forget which app has the focus and sends commands to the wrong applications and stupidity like that.
Tell me where I can download it, or maybe you can post it here on the forum. And a million thanks in advance :D

History
A couple of years ago, I wrote a little IR program to handle the Hauppage WinTV IR. Two days ago, I discovered Girder. Yesterday, I converted my code into a plugin driver for Girder. Today, I'm trying to learn how to use girder and test the plugin :-)
Cut to the chase
I'm basically after two things:
1) Some people to help me check the plugin works on something other than my PC (WinNT 4, UK WinTV PCI with remote to the S-Video port)
2) Any information and\or contacts people have at Hauppage.
The reason for the former should be obvious. The second is related to the way in which the plugin interfaces to the hardware. I worked on the basis that there was no point in re-inventing the wheel, and working out how to use the I2C driver Hauppage supply was too complex (i.e. dangerous) at the time, so I've patched through the IRRemote.dll that comes with the Hauppage remote software.
However, this is messy and requires the extra DLL, so I'd like to go direct to the I2C layer (which is part of the basic WinTV driver suite). If anyone can point me towards any information on the HWCi2C32 DLL, or can pass me the address of a friendly technical contact at Hauppage, I'd be grateful.
NB: Requirements for the plugin
Hauppage WinTV (WinTV PCI only?) with remote
Hauppage's own drivers
Hauppage's own IR software (for the IRREMOTE DLL - you don't need to run it  )[/b]

Hi psc,
your plugin sounds very interesting. Perhaps you could send mail it to realulti@gmx.de - or if anyone else received it from psc (since he didn't specify his mail address) could send it to me. I own a WinTV PCI.
Thanks for your effort.
I had also a little idea to use the tvcard.dll from uICE since the API is well documented it shouldn't be to hard to code an alternative client (for personal use only - I don't want to get into serious copyright trouble).

I'd be really interested to test your plugin, since the current one does not seem to handle stand by/power management events very well.
My setup:
Girder 3.2
Windows XP Pro
Showshifter
Hauppauge WinTV (FM Radio+Nicam+IR Remote)
Please contact me on this board or drop me a mail at telcopro (at) hotmail (dot) com (I hate spamrobots!)
Thanks a million!

Hi psc,
Will your plugin be able to handle other remotes using the Hauppauge IR sensor? Or will it only "see" commands from the Hauppauge remote control?
Thanks.

I hate to burst any bubbles, but the last post by PSC was 1.5 years ago. I'm afrain we lost PSC.

Next time I'll look more closely at the time stamps. Ron, do you have any idea on how the Hauppauge plugin can handle Power Management events better?
