i'm currently researching different products for home automation and ran into this product. i was wondering if anyone has used this product with Windows Home Server? i'm interested in installing it on my hp mediasmart and wanted to know if it would work before i purchased girder. thanks

I don't have this version of Windows on the test bench however a quick try on Rob's WHS shows that Girder indeed runs on WHS.

Ron,
The question I have is:
Is there a way to start girder on startup of WHS (and be able to access it later) without logging in?
I've been able to start Girder as a service, and it runs, but then I can't access the API...nowhere to be seen when I do log in.
I can obviously automatically log in to an account on boot (which is what I do on my current XP pro based server), but I'd rather not.
I'm looking to migrate my "always on" print server/file server/Girder runner to a new box, and thought WHS might be a reasonable choice.
Thanks,
Jon

I'm afraid that Girder currently needs to run under a user account, so that probably means to be logged in.
When you say "but then I can't access the API...nowhere to be seen when I do log in." Do you mean the Girder interface?

Ron,
I was just coming back to edit that...I had API on the mind...meant GUI.

I think you'd pretty much need to log in - either locally or using RDP.
Unless someone has written a WHS plugin that can access a given program's UI (or the whole WHS desktop) from within the WHS console that is.
It's unlikely we'll have the time to write a WHS plugin for Girder any time soon.
