You've raised some very interesting points.

I've also gone through a few other alternatives before choosing Girder. In my search, I've tested uICE and found it to be a very easy-to-use program, with a very good user interface. I remember one of the things that I liked the most was one of the minor features, the very attractive OSD of the uICE Winamp playlist-control Plugin.

In the end, I chose Girder for the greater flexibility (uICE didn't have variables support when I tested it).

I will re-download the uICE shareware and try to analyze it's pros\cons in comparison to Girder, and specifically Girder's current UI.

Hi guys...

After reading something in another thread, I went to the mediaTexx website ( http://www.mediatexx.com/ ). Have you looked at this thing? it looks great! I mean, have you seen it's on screen display and menu??
One weird thing: there are LESS compatibility with remotes/softwares/plugins (for instance, my StreamZap would not work) and they CHARGE YOU for it's usage...

Not that I looked several other sites, since I know Girder is the best, more flexible, better customer serviced IR software  and it can do anything, but I guess there should be other girder-like programs out there.

Nor that I want you guys to go out and change your soft, I would NEVER imply that  I would plainly not change for another soft, since the FEW trouble I had where solved, and I received help within 16 hours.

But I guess comparing us to them (Girder to competitors) can help knowing our possibilities, our restrictions, our pros and cons, and might lead to future developpement.

As for me, the only advantage I see to this Brand-B software is the *cute* on screen displayal... trouble is that most of the time I'm not in front of my HTPC, and when I am, my HTPC is using a LCARS interface, so the OSD and menu from Girder plug-in is Great. But if it could not steal the focus from WinMediaPlayer (loosing full screen mode) I would be hapier for volume change.

A big Con for them - Pro for us at the same - is the price... why registering a weird software when you can get the best :P for FREE?
Ok, you **can** donate, this is if you really want to. All us poor student don't *have* to pay to get nice HTPC.

As a conclusion I would ask you guys comments on other softwares compared to girder and request websites of competitors if there's some other.

Have fun, take care, have a nice week-end, don't watch too much movies, and keep some girder tweaking for next week!
