Well I got the adapter today and installed the drivers and connected it to the amp.

For a start, it just doesn't seem to want to work with Girder and the second problem is that Girder has shot up to 95% CPU usage (usually just abour 15% on this mini-ITX machine). Something is happening but nothing I want lol. Oh well, the adapter was cheap ((2 UK pounds).

Hmmmm... I might just keep my old PC for driving a NetRemote touchscreen panel and controlling my amplifier via a real serial port while I will be running my video stuff on my new Acer Revo. Share the processing power.

Do you know what chipset the adaptor uses?

I think it's an HL-340 if that is any help. That's what the driver is labled as at any rate.

Hmmm... not heard of that one - I've had some success with FTDI based USB to serial here.
