View Full Version : Eventstring from UIRT / IRMan Plugin

Hello,
I posted this question already in the Developer Forum, but maybe this forum is for this question the better place:
I am thinking about programming a tool for generating a .gml-file from the .ccf-file of a Pronto.
The eventstrings coming from Igors device are quite easy to understand, if you know the principle of IR-Codes. But for the IRman/UIRT-PlugIn I cannot see the logic behind it...
Does anybody have more information about this?
Or is the source of the PlugIn for the UIRT/IRMan-Plugin available?
Regards

I doubt you'll be able to acheive what you're after ...
The UIRT's normal reception is a six byte data stream. These six bytes are calculated by the UIRT in response to data received from the IR receiver, so they bear no resemblance to the IR data.
When the UIRT was adapted for IR transmission, Jon couldn't recreate the IR stream from the six bytes of UIR data so he added a raw mode receive. This is still an interpretation of what is received, but one that can be reversed.
You might be able to convert this raw data, but without knowing anything about CCF formats I would guess that they're very different to UIRT's raw format (especially as the Pronto can cope with much higher carriers).
Perhaps if you knew how to create CCF codes from the IR stream and wrote an application that recreated the IR stream from the captured raw data you might stand a chance ... but as the Pronto can learn codes from whichever device you're going to have to use to teach Girder in the first place, this seems like a lot of effort for no real gain.

HI Robin,
thank you for your information. I still think that such application would bring a benefit for Pronto-User (I know the format of ccf files...) and I will tell you why: For using girder together with your home theater devices you need an unused remote control and this remote control should use a frequency, which is similar to the frequency used by the UIRT-IR-Reciever . The alternative for Pronto-User is to look for a .ccf file for a device which works with the needed frequency. With remotecentral this is quite easy.
My idea is now, that the software reads this .ccf file and generates a .gml-file. This .gml file you can use to set up the right configuration...

I'm familiar with the need to use unused device codes ... I set my OFA remote to a Sony TV code as my other devices are Toshiba, JVC, Grundig & AIWA.
Some of the buttons weren't mapped, as they're not needed on a Sony TV, so I just added other unused Sony codes with the Magic function ... I now have a full palette of buttons that Girder can map to PC functions.
You mentioned reading CCF and creating GML ... in my own setup I have several groups; MP3, DVD, Cursor Control, Mouse Control, Application Selection, Basic TiVo emulation ... most of which double up the functionality of the buttons on the remote.
I really don't see why you would want to create a GML in this manner, wouldn't it be simpler to create the GML functionality and then just map the events as Girder normally does ?

Hi Holger,
I think your idea is possible (I've just debugged my UIRT2 firmware, so I have an idea of it)
I thought of it also, and maybe the firmware should be changed to produce the same codes as Igor's SFH plugin (Maybe we should create a RFC for that, so all plugins will produce same code :-)) )
A way when we can actually use the same code for receive and transmit is perfect.
I'll look for more info how to do it when I finish my debugging.

Hi Levy,
sounds really good. I also thought about this change of the plugIn. Please keep me informed!!!
This would also help people (like me), who begin with an "easy" IR-Receiver and then use the UIRT...
