Hello,

Im a noob and a bit confused. I have small house with a lot of remotes. I want to use my PC which is in the living room as a remote instead. I have girder and a USB-UIRT which I am hoping can send out IR signals to turn things on and off etc from either keyboard shortcuts or better yet a virtual remote that is on my desktop, a windows gadget or even a window floating around.

So- I was able to turn on the uirt plugin and have it learn the commands of several of my physical remotes. When I press a button on them they now get logged in Girder as the USB-UIRT source. My question is how do I make a keyboard command like ctrl-alt-V or something raise the IR command assigned to master_volume?

Are there any desktop or windows gadgets that can send girder commands btw?

thanks for the help!

netremote does exactly what you're looking for in windows. You can also use wndows mobile and windows CE devices with it. on promixis main site they have a 30 day trial.

You need to have an event (keyboard: ctrl-alt-v) trigger an action (IR USB-UIRT volume up).

Now the ctrl and alt and everything is pretty complicated. I use
F1 to turn everything in my HT on
F2 to turn everything in my HT off
F3 to raise reciever vol
F4 to lower reciever vol

only problem I have is F1 always opens help anywhere within windows. no biggie since I can just close it.

with netremote you make a template then make buttons, so i have:
reciever on/off
projector on/off
HTPC on/off
Server on/off
Living room light on/off
Kitchen light on/off
hallway light on/off
all on/off

girder and netremote have a pretty steep learning curve. I'd suggest playing around with them the if you get something to work save it and if you break everything don't save and re-open it.

I'm sure this is probably not the most elegant but I use the scroll lock and pause keys to identify girder commands I want i.e. scroll lock, T, I turns on the TV ---- scroll lock, T,O turns off the TV, scroll lock, R, I turns on the Radio ---- scroll lock, R,O turns off the Radio,. I also set up other commands like Scroll Lock, D, I to Turn on TV, Set TV to Video In, Open my stereo cabinet doors, Turn on the reciever, Set it to DVD, Set listen mode to 5.1, Turn on the DVD player, Open the DVD drawer. This sets up all my components properly to immediately start watching a DVD. I use scroll lock, D, O to reset and turn off everything. P.S. I also have a macro the brings girder to the front (i.e. FOCUS) when I press either scroll lock or pause which insures the keyboard commands go into Girder and not another program.
