Newbie: How to record and transmit sequence of IR codes to a home device?

Hi,

I am new to Girder and USB-UIRT. My requirement is to first learn/record the commands from the source IR remote and then send a code or sequence of codes to a device (like TV, DVD Player etc.). What I learnt till now is as follows:

1) We can use IR Profile Wizard to add a remote of a specific manufacturer and then learn or record the IR Codes by pressing the various remote buttons. After successful learning we can test these IR Codes by pressing the Test Button. For example, if we have learnt the "Power Off" IR Code then by pressing the Test button the device should get powered off.

2) Another way is to add a USB-UIRT Action to the self created group and then again do the process of learning by pressing the button of remote and Transmit the same by pressing the Test button.

3) Using #2 we can add multiple USB-UIRT Action for various IR Codes of the remote that we are using.

4) We can use MACRO for sequencing of IR Codes or to send multiple commands to a target home device.

Following are my questions:

Q1) Is my understanding correct?

Q2) What is the use of IR Profile Wizard? After adding the remote device and learning the IR Codes, what would be the next step? Where I can use the remote added? I could not able to find the way in the main GUI of Girder.

Q3) How can I retransmit these IR Codes to a target device without pressing the Test Button? Do I need to write some script or need to use some other tool to automatically send these IR Codes?

Q4) Can I use MACROs for sequencing of multiple IR Codes?

Please help me out.

Yes you got it correct.

To send IR codes learned with the IR Profile wizard, add a "Device
Manager\Generic\Generic" Action. Then from the device dropdown select
the newly added device and from the control dropdown select the button
to press.


Q3) How can I retransmit these IR Codes to a target device without
pressing the Test Button? Do I need to write some script or need to
use some other tool to automatically send these IR Codes?


Simply do it from the tree as described above. Attach an event to the
action to make it respond to something.


Q4) Can I use MACROs for sequencing of multiple IR Codes?


Yes, add a macro and add multiple generic device manager actions to
it.

If you wish to use the USB-UIRT directly you can do that too, simply
use the USB-UIRT action instead of the device manager action.
