Weirdness with IR handling

I'm having trouble with Girder, namely the capture of IR codes.

In the FAQ it states that one should not choose On Event and one's IR plugin, because that will make the event respond to any key on the remote. This is all true - when I do use On Event, the remote keypress gets captured, but press any button and the command runs.

But, when I do what the FAQ says, just leave it at All, the remote key never gets captured. Girder just sits in learn mode, as if it never receives a keypress.

I'm using the RealMagic remote.

Any ideas? I've tried reading docs/FAQ/forum, but I'm at a loss here.
