Serial to USB adapter

Have you tried connecting the receiver to a regular serial port to see if the USB adaptor is causing the problems?

I have a aerial to USB adapter for my packard bell remote and I can't get it working through USB. Girder gets signals, but I assume they are not correct. Any input appreaciated.
