has anyone used irman with a 25' serial extension cord? Does it still work?

I have without problems. However, I suspect that sucess depends more on your serial port line drivers than on the IRMan itself so YMMV.

I can only answer one of your questions. The StreamZap and IRMan should peacefully co-exist on the same machine. If they stay in the same room, the IRMan will react to all IR it sees. I don't know if the StreamZap can use a different remote or not.

I already have an irman connected to my pc via serial port working with girder. Can I add the streamzap usb reciever and use both at the same time?

They would be using the same gml file. I am just putting them in different rooms. Does the streamzap work with other remotes or just the one it comes with?

thanks,

Dan

Does the streamzap work with other remotes or just the one it comes with?

Your post led me to try it, and the results are surprising!!!

The hardware receives signals from other IR remotes (the led on the reciever confirms this).

However, these signals are apparently filtered out before they reach Girder, "learn event" does not acknowledge them. Nor do they do anything in the Streamzap software.

So, the to your question is no, currently the streamzap cannot be used with remotes other than the one it comes with.

In theory, every IR reciever recieves many extraneous signals, and filters them out, sending messages only when certain specific signals are recieved.

obviously, if the filtering is done in software, it is much easier to change than if it is done in hardware.

I am not sure wether the Streamzap filters in hw or sw. Anybody?
