What are some ways to get 5v because i want to run uirt on a laptop. Will a simple wall WART work or is there a risk of voltage spikes?

You could use a 5V adapter but it must be a stabilised or regulated one.
Another option could be to take the 5V from the keyboard or mouse connector, there exist adapters for this.

I've tried taking 5v from USB but there doesn't seem to be enough current for it. Max for usb is 500ma. Do you know how much the uirt requires?
