Cannot get RECEIVE to work...

OK, got my UIRT2 today.. Installed, Girder configured, all successful.. Tried to have it learn a test IR signal from a Sony remote. Will not learn the Power on IR so tried the Volume plus. As long as I held the volume + button down it would learn it.. So time to test it.. Assign a command to open notepad. Test it via the F5 key.. Works.. Get the Sony remote back out. Press the Volume + button.. Nothing happens..

installed and tested.. BUT.. it seems to be getting constant IR from somewhere.. The test program shows

followed by numbers and letters separated by commas..

They go by so fast that I cannot tell you really what any of them are.. WHat is going on???

The IR receiver is under my desk hooked to the UIRT2 in a room with no lights on and except for some daylight from closed blinds no other lights...

What is gong on??

Noise comes from more than light sources. Under your desk you may have other electronic and electrical things generating all kinds of noise.

Make sure you are using shielded cable on the receiver and you have the ferrite core and cap installed at the receiver end as shown in the guide (external connections section). This should kill all the noise you see going by.

OK.. found the instruction:

"A small ferrite from a junk PCB can be used as the 'L' (L stands for inductor). Thru-hole ferrites on PC boards look like black, cylindrical resistors. They are basically a piece of solid wire running through a ferrite cylinder. What you would want to do is put one of these in SERIES with the V+ supply line going to IR detector. Then add a 0.1uF capacitor directly between the + and GND leads of the IR detector."

Is this what you are referring to? If so is there a URL where there is a diagram to go with the above instructions? I looked but could not locate...

I found what i think is a ferrite from an old Network Switch I had. It is yellow.. Will that work?
