I have been toying with the idea of a Linux HTPC. I can't use Girder obviously - and I guess LIRC (http://www.lirc.org) is the best choice for a replacement.

There's a big comment on the home page of LIRC that it does not work with UIRT2.

Is there a fundamental reason why it doesn't? Is it just a matter of some code being ported?

Or, is there anything else under Linux that can be used with UIRT2?

Thanks.

Hello

There's a big comment on the home page of LIRC that it does not work with UIRT2.

Unfortunately, does not.

Is there a fundamental reason why it doesn't? Is it just a matter of some code being ported?

The fundamental reason is that LIRC is the most simple way to get IR codes. In this case PC will do all work decoding IR signal (you need a more powerfull CPU).

UIR/UIRT/UIRT2 do these hard work and send IR signal decoded to PC leaving CPU free to do more noble works.
I thing that porting some code does not resolve, just a new implementation do.
