Would there be interest in a version of girder compiled without the GUI ? The memory footprint differences are pretty minimal. ( think 300k ) The filesize difference is about 400k.

with the current HDDs and RAM units I don't think this is a issue at all. The only thing that will be good in this is to minize the Internet traffic when downlaoding it.
On the other hand this will make it more complicated to put together an up to date version - having to be carefull with both the GUI and the CORE.
So I think it will be better to leave it as it is now.

I would say yes ... because I presume that the GUI calls burn up cycles whether or not the window is being displayed.
If it's not a huge amount of work, great. If it is, then don't bother.

Actually the GUI is not loaded at all if it is closed. Its in memory but not being executed. The only trouble windows will have with it is that it has to swap out this piece of Girder.
It's no trouble at all, I have a gui-less version ready.

If it is possible to run Girder as a service when Girder has no GUI then I would say: YES! 8)

Maybe just maybe, its time to drop the topic of services, as I explained over and over again why it won't work.

Ok, ok... I stop!
I'm still thinking it's a pity that it will not work, but I understand the difficulties now.
