View Full Version : ZP gets stuck with DVDSpy 1.37

Hi,
I use Zoom Player with DVDSpy and since the beginning I have a really annoying thing happening to me. ZP 2.90 beta 1 gets stuck on every program change (from the copyright warning to the root menu, from the root menu to the beginning of the movie, from the beginning of the movie to the movie itself...). That's not such a problem since during the movie everything is fine, but I was wondering which bl... options I could have checked either in ZP or DVDSpy to create this situation.
I use DVDSpy 1.37 and the only way I found to recover from these annoying stops is to change from Full Screen to Zoom Mode in Zoom Player and then to get back to full screen, it generally makes the movie resume...
I tried to unregister all DLLs but nothing changed. I am 100% sure that DVDSpy is responsible for this because once disabled everything works marvellously well. Last thing, I use DVDSpy to display OSD infos and WinDVD filters in ZP.
Thanks for your help.

Do I understand correctly that this problem is long standing and not new to ZP 2.90? It occurred in 2.80 and so on. Correct?
As you may know, DVDSpy uses two techniques to extract information from Zoom Player. So, first, we can attempt to isolate the problem to one or the other.
In Zoom Player Options Settings Other, uncheck Enable LCD Message Server. This originates ZoomPlayer.LCD.* events. See whether the problem still exists.
Then check it again. And unregister MediaSpy.dll. This originates ZoomPlayer.DVD.* events. Again, see whether the problem persists.
Each time, use the Logger Girder plug-in to be certain of which events get through. And to note when the freeze happens relative to those events.
Also, please tell me what operating system you run.

I got the same strange problem
I'm using ZP 2.6 with Windows XP SP1
when the ZP's LCD Server is disabled and MediaSpy.dll registered:
it's hanging after this event :
Dev: 215 ZoomPlayer.DVD.Domain 17:57:42 Saturday, October 05, 2002 Pld1: MENU
but the next time it's hanging it does not give me any event...
When the ZP's LDC Server is enabled and MediaSpy.dll unregistered it's working perfectly.
so the problem is with the MediaSpy library...

Thanks for your reply MMcM,
I end up with the same conclusion gagou drew in his message.
I use Windows XP SP1, and the MediaSpy library seems to be responsible for those annoying hangings, with ZP LCD server enable, everything works great but as soon as I register the library again, ZP starts getting stuck again.
Sorry, I don't have time to use the Logger tonight but I will do it for sure by tomorrow.

Here it is:
Dev: 215 ZoomPlayer.DVD.Elapsed 20:49:06 Sunday, October 06, 2002 Pld1: 01:44:13
Between those two events I had to do something to restart the DVD playing process (I pressed Z to go in full screen and then a second time to get back to normal zoom mode)
That's why I got
Dev: 215 ZoomPlayer.DVD.VideoPosition 20:55:40 Sunday, October 06, 2002 Pld1: 512,288,4,52;512,288,0,0;720,540,0,0
And then:
Dev: 215 ZoomPlayer.DVD.Chapter 20:49:06 Sunday, October 06, 2002 Pld1: 12
Same scenario everytime.
So my conclusion is that there is some kind of problem with the VideoPosition variable. Because if you either move or zoom in the ZP windows, it restarts immediatly.
Cheers.

I had the exact same problem - I posted it on the ZP forums. After talking to blight briefly I felt that it was something I did stoopit. I just gave up after I could not figure it out.
I would be interested in getting it working again...

I am unable to reproduce these problems in my setup. So, I would like to see whether we can figure out more about what is different. One thing I suspect is that it might be XP related. If so, it may take a while for me to get an XP machine set up. I use Win2K. I tried some experiments with WMP 9, which shares much of the DirectX version, but did not have any problems.
Am I right that the problem only occurs when MediaSpy is registered and Girder is running with the DVDSpy plug-in enabled? Unregistering, disabling input devices, or not running Girder altogether are each sufficient to avoid trouble. Correct?
Is anyone seeing the problem on a non-XP operating system?
Is everyone using the same DVD decoding filters? I suspect that the problem is not with them, but with the Microsoft DVD Navigator. But it would be interesting to know.
Did it ever work for you? If so, do you remember what was different back then? Older version of DVDSpy / Girder, of Zoom Player, of the operating system?
Hopefully with several people having the same problem we can narrow down the variables.

Absolutely! Even with the DVDSpy plug-in disabled, the problem is still there which makes obvious the MediaSpy dll stucks on something.

Year, you're right...

I don't know because I use WinXP SP1

I use WinDVD audio and video filters with ZP 2.90.

Never, sorry... But I noticed that most of the time hangings occur at the beginning and at the end of a movie. Like somebody else said, it usually occurs during FBI warning and closing credits (at least four to five times). But while the movie is playing, everything is fine except particular situations (but in that particular case I can’t figure out why).
Hope it helps.
