Recently acquired a Asus P4PE motherboard. This mobo is loaded (Gigabit Enet, SPDIF, Firewire, etc.)
It is advanced enough to have a 5 pin (IR1) on the motherboard for UIRT2. From pin 1 it is +5V, nothing, IRRX, Grnd, IRTX
I am not a computer engineeer. The UIRT2 model I received sits in an empt PCI slot. It has has a 3 wire connector that does NOT fit the mobo connector.
Does the connection mean I don't need to connect the serial cable if I ever got it to work.
The board did not include an IR receiver or hookups. I'm SOL in this area, soldering included. My last soldering project was some tracer wires and piggybacking ram to get a TRS-80 Color computer from 4K to 16K or memory. (Yes I said K).
HELP!
:o

The connector you mention is for IRDA and can't be used exept for eventually supplying the UIRT with 5V.
Is there no WOL connector? Could well be as the MB has ethernet on board. If there isn't one you will need to supply 5V to the UIRT, connect the serial cable and optionally find a way to power up the PC.

I have an ASUS motherboard with built in IRDA2 support (as they clame at least) and i use my IRMan since forever but wanted to know if i could use the built in one with the separate adapter for the output portion at least to control my TV and audio gear. I know the ir input is not great from other posts ive read but haven't seen anyone post about how good the ir output is for using that to control audio gear and/or tv's. Anyone comment on this by chance???? Any help would be greatfull. Reason being is that ive been following IRDA/IRDA2 (now) since it's first post and still don't seem to have a perfect working model that works for everyone (clock mhz freq. very from person to person and design) so instead of messing with that only to find out that it doesn't work for me on my system. But i did want to try to use the one built in my motherboard for it's output support and still use my IRMAN for ir input since that works fine. I just am dying to have audio system control through Girder.

Luc,
Believe it or not it is a UART2 connector and NOT an IRDA connector. But I guess from your post UART2 not = UIRT2. They show a picture of a little board (assumed A pre-=assembled vs B unit that I bought). Manual page 2-29
WOL is a setting turned on. So my only connection in the PC is to get +5V power despite the 3 connector ribbon cable???
Worldrave's post is interesting. Is input through IRman and output through the UIRT2 unit I bought possible?
I have a channelmaster setup with emiters. Would those work if I did a 1/4" adapter (Preassembled card) to an 1/8" adapter for the emitters??? I need to get this working minus a soldering iron. Is it possible?
Thanks for any more help.

I sent a e-mail to the company asking if it would allow me to send out IR commands/strings VIA there adapter or what. Let's see what they say.
I mentioned that i have an IRMAN to receive/record IR remote signals/strings and need something to output the IR strings/signals, and if that would allow me to do that, if not, do they have anything to do so.
I'll keep ya posted. If not, or if more then $30 bucks, i guess i'll look for the most recent UIRT2 kit from that dude's site, and break out my soldering gun and just assemble one for i think it was around $30-35 bucks.

Good news. Hopefully this answers others possibly interested also.
Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for your interest in our products. We carry the motherboard adapter, the ACT-IR210L and it is compatible with the Asus Motherboards and this would work for your application.
Thank you
