Ok, here ya go. The quickest route (not the best, but quickest)

1) Download and install Girder.
2) Download the Igor sfh-56 plugin and put it in your girder/plugins/hardware directory
3) Plug your Packard Bell Remote into the 2nd Serial port and reboot.
4) Run Girder, in hardware configuration, turn on Igor plugin and hit apply. Then go back in and set it to COM1/DCD. Click on FILE and select ENABLE INPUT DEVICES.
5) Try out girder..if the graphic in the lower right hand corner turns colors, then the remote works...if not do step 4 again, trying COM1,2,3,4,etc.. until it does.

If all that fails...come back here..post status..I'll then explain how you can use a serial port monitor to check what exactly is going wrong.

Yeah,
Just download some exported groups from this site for things like WINAMP, etc... and then do as you said, "Hit learn, hold remote aimed at reciever and hit button". Then whenever you hit that button, it should do whatever that command does.

Some commands may need to be altered slightly to work for you, as WINAMP might be installed in a different directory than the guy who made the group, etc.... But you should easily be able to figure out why it isn't working..or just post a question here and we'll gladly help ya.

Girder can be a little difficult to understand at first..but it is well worth reading through these forums...as when you are done setting it up...it is awesome.

I can't seem to get my Packard Bell Remote to work. Could someone that has one tell me how they got theirs to work.

Thanks

Dave

Ok, that worked. Now When I learn the command with the remote I hold the remote up to the reciever and press the button?
