View Full Version : Learn Pronto to UIRT / Support RC6a

Hi,
In some of the threads here, I read something like import Pronto codes into UIRT. But I cannot find any description / tool to do so. How? I have not build a UIRT2 yet, am hesitating because LIRC does not support it, but if UIRT2 can be made to support or already supports RC6 and RC6a, I may deside to not go to Linux for my HTPC. (right now, I am experimenting on both platforms)
Greetings
Maurits
PS: I found RC6 and RC6a description here http://home.hccnet.nl/m.majoor/pronto.pdf

Hi Cybermaus,
if you chose the UIRT2-driver as a command (plugins-tab in girder) and push earn you'l find a buttun "import". That's the one.
I tried it and it worked, but you have to know which part of the code to paste. If you use the search function you'll find some threads where it is explained in more detail.
But I don't know if UIRT2 can be made to support or already supports RC6 and RC6a...sorry.
Hope it helps. Good luck!

Oh, that's where it is. I do not have a UIRT (yet), so that is why I did not see that botton yet.
As for searching the forum, I did that, believe me, thats why I kinda knew there must be an import somewhere, but nowhere I looked made clear to me the button was after the learn button.
So if the pronto codes are transmitted to the UIRT, I think it should be possible to have it deal with at least some IR6a codes, though some may be too long, and the issue with the changing 2-bit toggle pair may always cause some keys to be reported using two separate events.
Does anyone know the max memory space for Pronto codes for the UIRT2? The max length?
(Maybe I should just download the firmware code and interpret it, I have programmed PIC before, a long time ago)

You can see from the protocol spec that raw transmitions are limited to 24 burst pairs. http://users.skynet.be/sky50985/Uirt2_protocol.htm
Stuct transmitions can be much longer, but you are limited to only two types of burst pairs (maybe four types) after the lead-in pair. I don't know if the RC codes comply with this. If you post one of these pronto codes in learned mode, I can tell you if is compatible.
The UIRT2 is supported under Windows and Linux with the open source Misterhouse software available here www.misterhouse.com
I wrote the UIRT2 interface code for Misterhouse, so e-mail me if you are interested. I'm also thinking of writing a stand-alone perl script.

Aha, the pronto import is only for transmissions. That makes sense. For now, I was more interested in receiving.
I guess I'll better build/buy the UIRT to really play with it and see. Also if I can get it to work with LIRC.

As for your MisterHouse: Looks impressive. I tried to switch off your porch-light (seemed innocent enough) but it looks like you nicely thought about not allowing everyone to do so. But I got the impression the software is more directed to the control of external appliances, not internal applications, and thus less suited for a HTPC.

I am not the author of Misterhouse, just the UIRT2 interface. There are some scripts for controlling MP3 players and such. The tools are there if you want to control a DVD player or whatever.
