View Full Version : Problem X10 IR codes

I'm trying to teach Girder x10 IR codes for an x10 IR543. I have a CCF file that contains all the codes in Pronto IR format. If I cut and paste into the UIRT plugin > Learn > Import window the codes do not work. If teach the codes it does not work. The only way I can get the codes to work is to teach in raw mode. This works for the standard unit IDs (1-16), and command codes for bright, dim, on, off, all on, all off. However, I also have direct codes that bypass the need to input a separate unit ID followed by a command. These are not macros, but actual discrete IR codes. I cannot get thr UIRT/Girder to recognize these codes through any method.
Here is an example of one of the codes in Pronto format (for unit 1, direct dim):

Sorry to break this to you, but this code is too complex for the current UIRT due to memory limitations and the fact that IR TX codes must be compressed.
You'll likely have to wait for the USB version for a remedy...

Thanks for the quick response; at least I know now. I'll have to write a little script in Girder to do the job for me I guess.
You mention a upcoming USB UIRT...is it a completely new design from a hardware/software perspective, or just a UIRT2 with a RS-232>Serial chip in it? Any idea when such a beast might be available?

The X10 codes are short enough that you should be able to send them in raw mode. Try this code:
R006767671AA81AA81AA85A5A5A5A5A5A5A5A5A5A1AA81AA82 9FF
Set the frequency to 40khz and try different repeat values from 0-3. This code is for ALL LIGHTS ON. Let me know if it works and I'll post the rest.

I have successfully learned the codes in raw mode for unit 1-16, bright, dim, on, off, all on, and all off. The codes I'm missing are for direct dim, direct bright. The direct codes allow you to dim or bright without having to first enter a unit ID. The exact codes I need are for Unit 1 Direct Dim and Unit 8 direct Dim. I'd be happy to send you a CCF file if you want to try them out.
My reason for wanting to do this is that to dim a light, I have to create a macro on my remote the sends both the unit ID followed by a dim command. This causes the lights to dim in a jerky fashion since every second command is a unit code. If I use a direct dim command the lights dim smoothly.
An alternate approach would be to send one command to Girder that triggers a multigroup that somehow sends the unit code only once followed by a repeating string of dim commands as the remote key is held down. I'm not sure how to accomplish this though.

You may be able to implement your alternate approach with the ButtonMode plugin
(and thanks for discovering that the Raw mode could learn some of the basic X10 IR codes... as this will allow me to get rid of the X10 plugin)

Thanks - I actually looked for a plugin to do this, but somehow missed ButtonMode. It looks like it will do what I want. Once I've got everything working, I'll post my exported group to help save on other's frustration.

I have never heard of direct dim. It is probably a unit and dim combined into one signal like this:
R006767671AA85A5A5A5A1AA81AA85A5A1AA81AA85A5A5A5A2 96767671AA85A5A1AA81AA85A5A5A5A1AA85A5A5A5A1AA829F F
This is a unit 1 and a dim combined. It is also the maximum length for a raw code.

This 'combined' code will likely not work since most macros-codes have inter-code spacing. Until the USB-UIRT comes out, your best bet is probably the Multi-Group or ButtonMode.

The Button Mode plugin worked great. I'll be wrapping up the x10 set for export soon and will post to the section on this site.

Dave, have you been able to finish your IR X10 set?
For some reason, I can't teach my UIRT2 the IR codes for the IR453 unit, so your X10 group might be my salvation (the progress bar doesn't move past a certain point, even in RAW mode. I can see some IR codes in the debug mode, but that's all)

Sorry, haven't checked in here for a while. PM me your email and I'll send you what I have so far - haven't got around to finalizing everything, but I do have the codes for unit 1-16, all on , all off, on, off, bright and dim, plus button mode for direct dim/bright for a coupel of codes.
