Use of remotes bundled with grab cards (using the I2C bus) is quite difficult. Ron received documentation related to this I guess.

I understand your frustration. A lot of people would be happy to use their bunlded remote with Girder but other non-grab-card related devices works better

I bought the non-remote version of the Pinnacle Rave and a serial-port RealMagic remote which is supported just right by Girder.

have you guys come across this program?

I got rid of my 5.1 so I can't really tell if it helps.

I think the program was called "SB Live! Platinum 5.1 Programmer". The link above was the programmers home page, so I don't know what has happend to the program.

:Ah, try this page, there seem to be three progs to choose from: ALive! (http://alive.singnet.com.sg/features/platinum51/)

Mike.

Just curious if anybody is working on a Girder plugin to use with the Creative RM-900/LiveDrive IR? The software that comes with it (Remote Centre) is buggy and is incompatible with some of the applications I have installed on my machine. And it doesn't give you the control options that Girder does.

I'm sure I could build myself a serial receiver, but it would be a shame since there is a perfectly good IR receiver sitting in one of my drive bays not being used.

Thanks for the link. I wrote to the guy who makes the Winamp plugin for Remote Centre asking him to help out with a Girder plugin for the LiveDrive IR, but from the looks of his plugin, I guess he doesn't have anything from Creative other than how to create a KEY file to use with Remote Centre. My problem (and I've seen from newsgroups as well that other people have the same problem) is that the latest Remote Centre has a "nice" little feature that causes a picture of the remote control to pop up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen whenever the mouse is moved there, which is fine, but some of the other games that I run cause the remote to pop up by itself, interfering with the current image on the screen. Because of this, I don't run Remote Centre, so I was just looking for an alternative.

Well, I guess I'm going to have to break down and build a UIR. Actually, there's a few PCs I would like to remote control, so I'll probably build two or three.

Thanks for that tip. Unfortunately, Creative was "nice" enough to not bother saving that setting, so you have to disable it every time you run the Remote Center. This is what I mean by buggy software... why the heck wouldn't you save this setting along with all of the other ones? Stupid junk.

Yep, I've seen it. Only problem with this utility is that it requires SB Remote Centre to run-it's more of an addon or customizer to Remote Centre than anything else. I want a good program (like Girder) to be able to control my PC, not some garbage application like Remote Centre. See my last message in this thread... and what's even more frustrating is that not only doesn't it save the setting to disable the popup remote control, it DOES save the setting of which corner of the screen you want to dock it in, which is settable in the same menu!!!!

Based on previous posts, it appears that no one is working on a plug-in for it. Until a plug-in is created, you may want to check out http://clfaq.webhop.org

There you will find information about tools to extend Remote Center and the receiver.

As you have encountered, it's is difficult to find an IR app that works with the Live Drive IR since it does not appear to be addressable by COM port. Instead, it is connected by a communication cable to the SoundBlaster Live! Platinum 5.1 card directly.

I have inquired with Creative to see if there is a way to address it as a virtual COM port, but, I am not optimistic about a response.

Yeah I might have to break down and buy one too, they are cheap. Just such a bummer not make use of this nice built in device. Oh well.

Well as long as we are this far off topic...
it appears that when you right-click on that remote control pop-up you refer to, there is an option to disable the desktop remote. Hope that helps.
