Hmm it certainly should not crash.... I'm guessing its a division by zero, I'll have a peek at the source.

Did you try if the crash also happens with 3.0.23 ? ( to move the balance the other way you should enter a negative value)

Give this .gir file (http://www.stack.nl/~stilgar/girder.nl/volume.gir) a try.

Hi,

I've just tried to program a Fader for my soundblaster Live card.

I started by choosing volume change, and then on the volume panel I chose the Front Rear Balance. This sets the Volume change for the OSD to be like a standard volume meter, so I changed it to a Volume Balance Change - which displays left to right instead of front and rear, but is almost as good.

As soon as I take the fader to one extreme girder crashes.
"Girder has generated errors and will be closed by Windows."

I looked at Dr Watson and it says that the error was Exception number: c0000090

Is it wrong for me to be using the Balance control on the Fader?

I turned off the OSD, and noticed a few things:

1) It doesn't crash anymore, so I would be guessing the error lies there.

2) If I use the "Volume Balance Change" settting, I can only move the fader one way (to the rear or -ve values). I have to change to the "Volume Change" setting instead to get the fader to move back towards the front.

Hope that helps

Girder doesn't appear to crash anymore, (with 3.0.23) however if I use the Balance control, I can still only move the fader in one direction (negative). If I try to move the fader in a positive direction it brings up the OSD but doesn't move the bar.

The left - Right balance works fine. - There hasn't been a problem with that.

When I set the control to the front rear fader, girder sets the display to a volume control type. This works fine, but the OSD looks like a volume control, (so having the volume half way is in the centre, having the volume off is all the way to the front, and full on is all the way to the rear).

If I then change it to a balance type control (leaving the setting for which mixer to use the same), it will only move one way. (Even if I use one control with a -ve value and one control with a +ve value.)

I'm guessing the Balance type control and volume control settings speak to the mixer in a different way.

I think the best solution would be to be able to choose which OSD type to use for each volume control you make.
Perhaps this should be incorporated as part of the new OSD that is underway?
It would be nice if you could set a picture -

Treble clef and Bass Clef to represent adjusting treble and bass
Speaker to represent main volume,
another symbol to represent balance and fader etc...

and also to be able to chose which type of OSD bar to display -

"Volume" type
Balance type
and a Fader type which is just like the balance but up and down except left and right.

I assume that Bass and Treble settings would use the volume type also.
