View Full Version : Help: Trouble with Scientific Atlanta Explorer Cable Box

Hi All,

I am having trouble with controlling a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 Cable TV box using UIRT2 and Girder.

I have tried learning (both in standard as well as raw modes). I have also tried codes from Pronto ccf files (from www.remotecentral.com) and no luck with that either.

Other devices seem to work fine, so I know I have a functional UIRT2 and a good install of Girder and the UIRT plugin.

Here is the sequence when I try to learn the power button:

I also tried the different frequencies in the dialog but no luck.

Has anyone else successfully used UIRT2 with this device? Am I doing anything wrong?

The Scientific Atlanta cable boxes use 57.6 kHz carrier frequency. I think you are hosed.

That was what I gathered as well. The remote for the 2100 doesn't make my indicator LED on the USB-UIRT blink. :(

Guess I screwed myself by not ordering with the 56K receiver option for $5 more :cry:

You can still transmit 56khz signals with the USB-UIRT even if you don't have the 56khz option. You just can't learn them. Try this code for the POWER button I generated:

Let me know if it works and I can post the rest.

I put that all in as CODE1 and my SciAtl 2100 box just sat there completely uninspired :(

I did set the carrier frequency to 56kHz too.

Sorry, that was a UIRT2 code I posted. The USB-UIRT codes are slightly different. I will update my script and repost the code.

Set the frequency to 58 and the repeat to 5 for starters.

Whoops, found a bug in my script. Try this one:

The information I have says this is "Old Panasonic" format, which uses 57.6 kHz carrier. So I rounded up to 58. It might not matter.

There will be new firmware released for the USB-UIRT in about a week which enables the wideband IR receiver inside for learning. With this you will be able to learn from your Sci-Atlanta remote even *without* the 56KHz option...

Any update on the USB-UIRT and the Scientific Atlanta cable boxes? I ordered the USB-UIRT with the 56 K option, but still was not able to get it to work. This was a few months ago though, and I don't know if there have been any firmware updates.

With the firmware update the UIRT works great! The learning needs to be done really close (as documented with the update) but once learned the transmit has been faultless.
