Welcome to Girder!

Which plugin are you using to capture the serial data stream from the receiver?

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.

Start Girder and go to the file/settings .../hardware plugins screen. Please tell me which ones have check marks next to them. These are the hardware plugins that are enabled in your Girder configuration. These plugins are the things that are supposed to take your IR data and present it to Girder as events that you can bind to commands.

Also, you mentioned that you built your own IR receiver (pretty cool!). What type of receiver design is it? Is it a UIR or Redrat or a proprietary design? I'm just trying to figure out which hardware plugin would work with your particular receiver. Thanks.

When using the serial plugin, make sure you are using the handshaking value "DTR/RTS power". This raises the DTR and RTS lines in anticipation of one or both being used to power the attached device (receiver).

To verify this, start Girder and go to the file/settings .../hardware plugins screen. Click on the Generic Serial Support and press the Settings button. Choose the previously set up device from the drop down list and press the Choose button.

If you could find out (from your house mate) which serial lines are used for power, it would help a lot. Thanks.

Suggestions, no. Questions, yes.

What are the "receive message" settings? Does the device generate fixed length packets or character terminated packets? Is the receive timeout enabled? What about modem events?

I'm becoming stumped. Not there yet, but in the vicinity.

Groz -

Could you send me an E-Mail at the address attached to this post? I'd like to send you a test version of the serial plugin.

Thanks!

Via our E-Mails, we found that the serial plugin is not raising the DTR/RTS lines on the port. This means the receiver is not powered and will not work. I'm trying to figure out what the **** is going on here since I have 2 machines where this same code works flawlessly.

To be continued ...

I just had another thought ... have you tried the UIR/IRMan Girder plugin?

I have exchanged E-Mails with Dalton at http://dalton-electronics.com/URCR/Index.htm and it appears the generic serial plugin will not work with this device. The problem is the incoming data is non-deterministic (there is some varience in the timings of the signals). I suggested an extension architecture for his windows software (DRCS) which would allow it to send events to Girder (or any other Windows software) but he is not interested.

If I get some free time, I'll re-visit this but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Just had another idea ...

You could use DRCS to receive data from the device and have it launch girder with the
-eventstring <string>
command line parameter. Varing <string> to be different for each button.

Just an idea.

Hi

I have got my serial port remote wiorking with PCRemote but cannot receive a signal when using girder

I dont think that i am doing anything wrong but any hints on how i can get this to work would be greatfully received.

Grozzz

I have built my own serial port receiver which works with other software.

I have just installed the standard girder 3.0.23.

I have tried using IrDA and UIR/IRMAN but neither of them appeared to work. I have tried fiddling with the values but the receiver light on the front of the remote box isnt lighting up.
I have just downloaded the serial port plugin 2.0 but wasnt sure what to do with it or whether this might make it work!!

soryy, a bit of a newbie at this!!!

Not sure about the receiver, it wasnt actually me who made it, it was my house mat! All i know is that it uses a PIC chip and he found the details on the internet!

can anyone help me please??

I have tried the generic serial port plugin, i think tht this might work but i am still having trouble!! I think it might have something to do with the unit getting power from the serial port!!

Cheers

hi,

yes the serial IR receiver uses the DTR/RTS lines for the power, i have enabled them in the handshake part but i still dont seem to be able to get a signal through!

I have set the values within the plugin to match those that work with PCRemote which is parity none, bits 8, baud 56000 but this doesnt work!

Do you have any further suggestions?

Cheers

many thanks, i have now sent through an e-mail and a web address from which we got the details to design the remote control, hope that this will help you to helm me

many thanks

Groz
