I don't use a PC based DVD player so I can't comment on WinDVD specifically; however, I THOUGHT the mixer in Windows was supposed to allow multiple sound clients to do just as you are trying to do.

Which version of Windows are you using? Does the say command work if you have the CD player started instead of WinDVD? How about an MP3 player?

Target is irrelevant with the Say command.

Also, What sound card do you have. Some old ones with older drivers, seem to only be able to cope with one audio streem at a time.

Its not the sound card then
Try the preview voice button on the control panel/speech applet whilst the dvd software is running.

I would say that your DVD program is hogging the sound card. I would check the settings in WinDVD and see if you can use DirectSound or some other setting.

Hope that Helps

I'm using the say plugin for a few things, but once WinDVD is running, Say no longer functions.

Is this because WinDVD has control of the audio functionality, or am I just not targeting the correct window/object?

Any suggestions?

I have the SB Live! Platinum (Not 5.1). My drivers are up to day as of three months ago.

Is Target irrelevant with Say?

Ah! I did that one. And indeed, the Test button doesn't speak with WinDVD in foreground. A clue?
