Could anybody who made a porallel switch tell me how he made it?

a switch on the parallel-port or what?

yes just a simple switch on a parallel port would it need any resistors? power? if you or somebody else could make a plan?

I do not have a schematic for a parallel port attached set of switches; however, if you can use a serial port instead ....
The Serial plugin comes with a demonstration device file called switches. The readme includes two schematics. One for four switches and another for 15. The readme also has links to two threads on this forum which talk about using serially attached switches.

once I unextracted them is it the "Generic Serial support" ???

The plugin is called Serial port (http://www.girder.nl/downloadn.php?Link=297) on the download page. Once this file is downloaded and unzipped, the demo is called switches.

yes bu IN girder were I have to activate the plugin is it the generic serial support?

Yes it is. (Sorry, I misunderstood the question)

And a nother question...
it doesn't matter if from the first plan(4 switches) I leave 3 switches out so I only have one switch ??????

No, 1-4 switches should work.

So I made 1 switch started girder and tehn in settings???
what should I put for settings? the only thing I could find out is COM1 and then I tought I click on receive but then I get a nother 100 settings

Did you import the device file from the switches directory?

I imported the switch.ini file
but then when I do "learn event" and I push the button still nothing happens :s:s

You imported the device file and set the device from "no port" to COM1. Then you pressed Apply or OK. Right?
If so, then it should work.
If it isn't working, open the settings for this device and press the receive button. On the right should be a couple of check marks (modem event enable and script). Turn off the script check mark and press OK. On the serial device dialog press OK.
Now try the switch. At the bottom of the Girder main window you should see event messages when you press and release the button. Something like "DSR Detect" and "DSR Lost". The exact event string will depend on which input pin (1, 6, 8, 9) you have chosen to put on the other side of the switch from the output pin (4).
Another way to see these event messages is to use the Logger plugin from the download page.

Have you verified the signals in your circuit?
When Girder loads the serial plugin, it loads the device and raises the output lines. Do you see these lines go high?
When you press the switch, the input line should transition from low to high. Do you see this transition?

How can I see that it raises the output lines?? //go high
where can I see the input line transition from low to high??

For both, I believe you can use a volt meter and the back of the serial connector attached to your switch.

I'm sorry but I don't understand completely probably because english is not my main language...

this is what I made
could you indicate by preference edit the image to explain me where I should plug my volt meter?
since I'm quite new in this stuff here an image from the meter I have...
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/soulas457/IM001801.jpg
in wich one of the 2 do I have to put the red wire? and the big yellow turningswitch @ which position?

this is the plan added with the plugin

If your drawing is complete (no extra resisters or diodes), you have shorted power to ground. :( Please remove the wire going to pin 5.
I'm not an electrical engineer and don't have a volt meter like yours. However, I think you should plug the red wire into the opening next to the black wire. I think you want the 20 setting on the left side of the meter.
Place the black lead on pin 5 and the red lead on pin 4. When the plugin initializes, this should go fom 0 to some non-0 value (probably 3.3V to 8V) on your meter.
Place the black lead on pin 5 and the red lead on pin 1. When you press the switch, this should go from 0 to the same non-0 value as pin 4.
Good luck!

Ok indeed I had to to get that wire out!!!!
I now get a carrier detect and a carrier lost so this means it receives the signal!
but How van i learn it the event because when I click on lern event it gives em a little window with "Enter the string exactly as you want it learned"
