Girder 2 is hopelessly outdated, and the functionallity that 2...E gives you is
now also available for the 3 series. Meaning that Girder also works with the IRServer, and thus allows for Comport sharing, because the IRserver is accessing the comport, not Girder or any other program.

If you create a multigroup in Girder you can have the group disable your IR device in Girder, wait a few seconds then start winamp. When Winamp starts it will open the com port. When you close Winamp then Girder can sense this and re-enable the IR device.

You will need to use the TaskSwitch hardware plugin.

Should you have any probs then let me know and I will try and help further

No, what you need to do is setup a button, like the power button as a bulticommand. the first part of the multicommand is triggered by an ir code. this then disables ir device, waits a few seconds then loads winamp.
The second part of the command is triggered by the taskswitcher, this checks for the presence of winamp. If you setup the winamp plugin with the same key like power to quite winamp then the taskswitch in girder will detect winamp has closed and will re-enable the ir device.

hi to anyone reading.
i wrote a menu able to let me chose to play mp3 using winamp or watch a dvd using windvd. i use girder to control the menu and windvd, but i'd like to use the PE1PUY plugin (v 2.53) for winamp to control this last program. the problem consists in the fact, that when i have girder open, the winamp plugin say that the com port is already in use. i could shut down girder when i open winamp, and re-open it after i used it, but this is a realy not-nice solution. can someone tell me how to solve this problem or find a workaround?

tnx in advance.

hmm... yes, this could work, but i would have to press a key on the remote to disable girder. this is quite annoing... is there not a way to "send an event" to girder (like dde, or something like this) to disable the ir device automaticly from my menu progam? this could be the final solution. so i could disable girder from my program, and re-enable it when winamp closes with the plugin you suggested to use.

ps.
if someone is interested in the menu-program i wrote just drop me a message, i'll send it to you.

yes. you are right. i tried what you sad and it works fine  thank you!
i had also a look around on other sites, and i've found the irman server (www.evation.com) witch is able to work together with a special version of girder (v 2.1.10E), and since i have this pice of hardware i will use that pice of code  it works with activex plugins, and so i will be able to write plugins by my own, if i can't find them on the site. this guy coded also a plugin for winamp, and for windvd; so this is just what i was looking for.
i hope this thread will be useful for others also

i tryed girder 3 and it din't work for me with the ir-server. anyway, ver 2 does anything it has to do for me, so even if it's outdated i don't care. winamp works, my menu works, windvd works... anything works perfectly togheder in harmony

sure!
i re-tried girder3 with the irserver plugin, but i really don't need all those features. what i mean is that girder2 has all i need, so why upgrade. it's easier to configure (becuase it has less features) and it seems to me it has less problems.
for example, when i load the irserver and girder at startup it works fine, but if i load the irserver from the start->programs menu, and then girder3, it looks like girder doesn't detect any keys i press on the remote (they show up in the irserver, but not in girder).
i also noticed some other little things that maybe could be bugs (i didn't play around with it much, so i don't want to say they are).
anyway, i apreciate a lot the work RonB took, and will take into this project, and really want to thank him for the nice program he made and gives away for free.
