I want to use girder to detect when my alarm is armed disarmed or triggered using the serial plugin to get an rts or cts on a com port from my alarm system when it goes high.
Now how do I then send a message to my gsm phone via the GSM network to notify me no matter where I am of such and event?
I know the Mobile SMS plugin can send text but this would require a second cellphone connected all the time.....correct?
thanks Rick

Yes, with the SMS-plugin you would need another cellphone.
Here in germany we have central SMS-gateways, which can be called with an ISDN-card (maybe analog modem also). This way you can send cheaply and fast SMS-messages. But you need an external program. There are many of them so there should be something suitable.
Another approach would be to buy one of those pre-paid cards. They are cheap and if you have an old unused cellphone this would also work, when a thief cuts your telephone-line. :)
If you also use an UPS this would be a real alarm-device.
Actually I had some setup to notify me, if some event occurs. Because my ISDN-line has 10 numbers, I used one spare number for the caller-ID and simply called my cellphone and let it ring one time. So I can determine, that it really was the computer who is calling me and then call back to get the appropriate message through some kind of answering-machine-program.
