Its usually only possible to use the original keyboard, thus other remotes will not be possible.

However, if you buy a programmable remote, like the 'pronto' or something you can teach that the keyboard ir signals and go from there.

Seeing kind of a "IR activity" on your keyboard receiver doesn't mean much.

Actually, as Ron said, an ir receiver will handle only what it is made for. Keyboard IR receivers can understand codes sent by the keyboard. They cannot be used as "universal IR receiving unit".

My RealMagic remote ir receiver as well as my keyboard one are blinking at ANY ir code being transmitted into their direction. That does not mean they can understand those.

My opinion regarding remote controlling a pc using a universal (learning) remote is that you can't make it only with a wireless keyboard.

You'll have to get some other devices (IRman or Realmagic remote) to do so.

I have a BookPC that I would like to use the Keyboard IR with a different remote. Is there a way for Girder to "learn" the codes on a different remote as you press them and then remap those codes into keyboard commands? When I push buttons on the remote the lights on the IR reciever actually light up, so I think it should work. Any info would be helpful cause my BookPC doesn't have serial ports for me to be able to use an IRMAN.

Yeah I have tried that, even worked with my Visor Deluxe. However I got a really nice Steering Wheel remote that I would like to be able to use instead. Guess I will have to find a USB to Serial Converter and then use IRMAN with that.

Hey Orangewhip,

Were you ever able to get your Bookpc working with the IR device(s)? I too have a bookpc and just bought IRman, but have not been able to get it to work yet. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
