The ACPI fix was to fix a problem with Windows 98 that would not initilise the COM ports correctly if the machine went to sleep. It's only needed if you use the software supplied to operate IR device.
If you use Girder then you dont need it.

I just copied the Girder directory from my WinME home theatre pc to my Win2K Advanced Server (the Internett/mp3 server in my home network) and only had to change the comport. I'm waiting for another comport card right now, since I need three ports (ISDN-adapter, X-10 serial module and IR receiver). But everything worked without a glitch.

I have read some of the messages about the Anir Remote, and it's nice someone got it to work with Grider, (another option is to go via WinLIRC, it works there to),
But now to my question since there are some users of anir here, i wonder why it only works on some computers, it works here on my laptop (p3-700,win2k), but not on the computer i want to use (win2k there also),, i know animax.no have a ACPI Fix program, that fixes some incompabilety, but it doesn't work under windows2000

Well, as i said, i'm using windows2000, and i'm ofcourse trying to use girder (animax don't even have software that work under win2k , but i still have this problem, i have got girder to work on my laptop, but not on the machine i want to use it on.. i can't figure out wath's wrong, i can't find any diffrents between the machines other then ACPI that can cause this, and if i open a terminal program i can see DSR goes on and off (like it should do) when i press a key, so there's not a hardware issue either..

Well, i have tried both Igor's SFH-56 Plugin and WinLIRC. and both work fine in win9x, but when i reboot to win2k they don't work at all, i'm not reciving anything at all from my remote, if i open a terminal program i can see the dsr go on and off when i press something, and other serial connected hw works fine, so it isn't a hardware/windows prob, i have only got it to work on one of my three win2k boxes, a laptop,. the other 2 win2k boxes have dual processors, but that can't have anything to do with it, can it?,

Perhaps you could describe what your problem is exactly, and what plugin you are using. I'm using this remote under win2k with the winlirc plugin and have no issues yet. The advantage of using WinLIRC is that you can bind both the 'up' and 'down' codes of each remote button to the same function, which can be very useful
