View Full Version : Problem with sending IR via Slink-e

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to get Girder to send IR commands to my Denon receiver via my Slink-e but am not having much luck. I have a working .cde file that works fine from CDJ. In Girder I installed the Slink-e plugin (version 1.1) and added a device for my receiver.
I then tried adding a simple command for volume up. When I go to the plugin settings for the command the Device and Code lists show up properly. When I test the command, the Girder status bar shows "SlinkeSend denon:vol+" and in SlinkeServ I see the send counter incrementing. But, the command doesn't work. I tried a few other commands (vol down, mute, etc) with the same results. I know the .cde file is good since the same commands work fine when executed from CDJ.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?
Thanks

Hi grog,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Girder :)
Are you using the correct IR Port in Girder's SLinkE setup (File->Settings->Plugin (tab)->SlinkE Driver->Settings)?
IR Port 0 is for the internal Slinke port (it's labeled IR rx 0, on the SLinke unit). IR Ports 2 -7 required a Xantech IR connecting block (Slinke version 3.x) or Nirvis IR expander (Slinke version 2.x).
Also, if you have the Girder logger plugin installed, you should be able to see Slinke send events. Lastly, do you have an IR emmiter with a tell-tale led that you can plug into IR port 0? This would help you see whether or not Girder and the Slinke are sending any IR out.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the welcome. :)
I have the SlinkE set to use IR port 0 which I believe is the correct one since that's how it's set in CDJ which works. I also tried port 1 but that didn't work either.
I installed the Girder logger and it confirmed it is sending events to the SlinkE:
Dev: 219 SlinkeSend denon:mute 11:03:18 Sunday, April 27, 2003
Dev: 219 SlinkeSend denon:vol+ 11:02:26 Sunday, April 27, 2003
SlinkeServ also shows it's send counter incrementing so it's receiving the event and acting on it. Unfortunately none of my emitters have a tell-tale LED but my Tivo's power and record LED's blink whenever they receive an IR command, even if it's for another device. They blink when CDJ sends the commands successfully to the receiver, but they don't blink when I send them from Girder, so I think nothing's being sent.
Any thoughts on what to check next?
Thanks for the help,
grog

Nothing has changed with the Slinke plugin since last july or thereabouts and it certainly sounds like the Slinke is sending out IR given the logger and slinkeserv entries. All of which leads me to believe that Girder, the slinke plugin, and slinkeserv are all behaving properly.
Only a couple of other possibilities come to mind at the moment:
1.) Is CDJ configured to use the slinke server? If not, does denon IR out still work if you configure CDJ to use slinkserv?
and if that doesn't pan out...
2.) How far away is the emitter from the piece of gear you're trying to control? The Xantech emitters have an extremely short range. Have you tried placing/sticking the emitter directly over the IR receiver for the denon and/or the tivo?

Hi Steve,
Yes, CDJ is using SlinkeServ (I had to configure it to, otherwise Girder couldn't talk to the Slinke at all because CDJ would take control of it). The Denon IR out works from CDJ just fine using SlinkeServ.
I tried holding the emitter right up to the remote sensor on both the Denon and the Tivo but still nothing. And again, since it works from CDJ I'm assuming the emitter is working fine.
I'm quite stumped on this one....
Do you know if SlinkeServ has any kind of debug log that can be enabled? It would be interesting if we could see what Girder is sending to SlinkeServ vs what CDJ is sending. If not from SlinkeServ, is there any other way to capture this?
Thanks,

Not that I'm aware of :( At this point I'm out of ideas. Send me your cde file if you like, and I'll try to duplicate the problem here. You can find my email address in my profile.

Thanks Steve. FYI, I was going through my miscellaneous parts and found that I actually do have a tell-tale IR emitter and confirmed that the Slinke is definately not sending anything out.
I'm guessing I must've set something up wrong so I'd appreciate it if you could have a look at my test cde and gml files. I checked your profile but your email isn't being displayed. Could you please pm me with your email address?
Thanks,

Arrgghhh....I just figured out the problem. It was something stupid after all - I had Slink-E port 0 checked in the Slink-E plugin settings so it must've been sending stuff out the s-link port. After unchecking that it's working fine now.
Thanks for all your help.
