Hi there everyone

I was wondering is one could use Girder (directly or not) to put a harddisk for instance in standby mode.

I've set my power management only to put the hard disk in stanbdy afer 3 minutes (some noise reduction involved) but it doesn't trigger itself a lot.

While I don't understand exactly why it doesn't go in standby (playing a dvd produces no harddisk activity), I'd like to try forcing the disk in standby.

Probably this will be enough and the disk won't go out of standby 2 minutes later !

Hi there Ron
I guess not. One of the remaining light on my desktop computer (see http://yvonus.grolamerz.com/ht/DSCF0240.JPG bottom right) is the hard disk and apart from launching app, it doesn't move an inch (I would also hear it).

And sometimes, it goes in standby mode as expected and wakes up only at the end.

Player has always been PowerDVD ...

If I could force it, then I could check easily for things waking it up.

I remember a long time ago, having a seagate dos util that could put the hd into standby. I think maybee it would need low level access that windows wouldn't allow, but you could try various hd manufacture websites to see if thay have any utilities to do this.
