Event.exe is in the Girder program folder. Normally c:\program files\Girder32\event.exe
Run event.exe by itself for syntax.

Reading the FAQ, reading this board, downloading and examining Group export files, experimenting and asking specific questions (like your first one) is the way that worked for me.
Identify the hardware that you are trying to use and test it. I used Girder via the Internet Event Server for several months before I got any IR hardware (Now I also use the USB-UIRT from Jon Rhees).
The real power of Girder is the commands, multicommands and variable manipulation scripts.
Once you have a command structure that controls your applications the way you desire, adding/replacing event triggers is secondary but is also where many people get hung up. You can use the F5 test command once you build a command without adding an event trigger at all.

Thanks Jim for replying
I don’t have a problem with getting commands to work
I have got Girder to work a few things using the timer & the keyboard without a problem.
It is the triggering form other programs I can’t get to work
I have read the help files and searched the forum
Please can you tell me how to get Girder to be triggered on a particular event?
What I am interested in doing is when I get a voice mail this to trigger Girder
But first a need to find something that Girder will recognize hence the question
I have tried using the Girder event but can’t pin it down to one event
Thanks again

What voice mail software are you using?
What methods are available from it for notification? Can it run an external program? Send an email? Create a file in a folder that can be monitored?

So CAN Girder to detect a new file? Please

I don't think girder can do this by detecting an event.
You could periodically use LUA to read a directory and examine it for a new file. See the only lua doc and demoscript for how to read a directory. You could use the alarm timer to call this event every few mintues....

You didn't say which version of Supervoice you are using. I saw at http://www.pacimage.net/supervoice/sv-products-overview.htm that 5.0 supports notification by external program
On the Girder tab the function "File Exists" can check for a specifc file. But not activity in a folder.
I did find a program at http://tinytools.nm.ru/fwatcher.html that could launch event.exe to tell Girder that a folder changed.
There is an example of using the Win32 API for folder change notification at http://www.relisoft.com/win32/watcher.html that could be included in a Girder plugin, I don't have time to learn how to write and debug a plugin right now... But maybe one of the Plugin gurus could take that and run with it :)
