I have a computer Athlon 1700+/ Albatron KX400-8/ 512 Mb DDR333/ GF4MX440.
with 2 OS installed (on separate partition, of course) - WinXP SP1, Win2000 SP3.
I use IgorPlugin v 1.10 with Girder 3.2. IR receiver connected to COM2.
Same command sent from IR remote (in my case, STOP in BSPLAYER) take 20 % of CPU load under Win2000 and about 50% of CPU load under WinXP.
Any ideas, suggestions, etc. welcome!

My guess is that the difference is in the speed that 2K updates the CPU strain versus XP's speed. I think all commands on the Igor plug-in takes 100 % cpu for a fraction of a second, so XP probably gets further up on the scale in that time, before the load dissappears again. Or maybe you have set the priority differently for the plug-in?

I don't think that difference is in measuring CPU load under 2000 and XP.
I hold on button pressed for 10 seconds, so remote sends code repeatedly.
CPU load under 2000 still about 20 % while about 50 % under XP.
IgorPlugin has same settings.
Does anyone has same experience? E.g. more CPU load under XP than 2K on same computer?

I'm still not convniced since the Igor Plug creates "mini bursts" of very highg CPU strain. Even if you hold the remote button in, it will not receive continually (as far as I know), it will receive it as a series of commands, so you'll get the next burst after the first one is off the CPU. But I might of course be wrong.

I think its a combination of the plugin, using a com port for your remote, and how the OS deals with girder (com plugin, etc).
Just some more info...I'm using girder with my Winfast 2000 XP tvcard and I have never seen the cpu spike while pushing buttons. Computer has been on for 74 hours and girder has only used 18 seconds. Its gotta be your setup...
