Hello all,

I have used girder in the past and kind of got away from it. I am back now and am setting up a HTPC. I want a good remote to use and will be using Girder with it. As I search and search I get more and more confused. I have a PB fastmedia and an AST remote that I have been experimenting with. They don't really seem to work very well. I am considering the following:

ATI USB remote (The RF version)

Streamzap

Could I get some advise from some experienced users which one I should go with as far as reliability and ease of use.

I am open to other suggestions also. As I have searched through the forums there seems to be no real concensus as far as choices. The area I will use this in is relatively small so the RF model is neither a plus or minus. I am using snapstream on my htpc so that is a plus for it.

Any advise???????

your planning on what im doing im guessing a home theater pc i have one set up for that right now.

all i can say is i have the ast remote/reciver works fine by it self with girder but i have a problem which i have yet to rectify with girder that girder picks up the other remotes so for a media center pc and haveing more then 1 remote (tv dvd reciver vcr tvbox) i would test and be care full
and the ast one looks far better then the PB fast media(but i never used it)

and whats yoru problem with them not woring well?slow mouse move ments or maby repeating?

and the ati remote im looking at too cause the other remotes cant interfer only prob is it uses AAA batterys and i do beleave 4 at that so it probaly uses batterys like mad :-/

i never heard of the Streamzap remote tho :-/

theres also a creative stand alone one that looks like a creditcard i wouldnt touch it ^_^

and another umm m1 one i for get its name tho but its also RF
and theres the nvidia personal cinema vid card and remote (the remote i sware is a knock off of the ati one
http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?Part_Number=064-A8-NV88-A4 <-- the only US maker i could find

but in my searches there isnt many options a popular one i find is get a good ir reciver and use girder work with a universal remote
or old tv remote ect ect

hope this helps ^_^"

I have the RF All in wonder remote and It works pretty good. It does not go through batteries fast at all. I've owned it for two years maybe and only replaced them once. I don't use it very much though either. For a while I couldn't use it with girder and I was stuck with the lousy logitech software. Someone finally wrote a plugin for it though (thanks whoever you are!).

I just recently bought a one-for-all universal remote (http://www.ofausa.com/remote.php?type=URC%208810) from walmart for 20 bucks and it is a great remote. It is JP1 (http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/) compatible so if you can't control it with this remote you probably can't at all. Has learning on almost all the keys, can control 9 devices, and looks great in the dark with the backlight plus you can't beat the price.
