Dear Girder users,
I understand your impatience as to when Girder 4.0 is finally going to be released. I can't wait to finish it, As explained earlier (http://www.girder.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4480) I'm currently working on getting a Masters degree in Applied Physics.

I can tell you that is no easy job. Things however are going well and I will be publishing my first science paper about it later this year! As to the August deadline, I have been able to get a little extension on this since there was no way I was going to make it. Sadly this means that I cannot yet continue working on Girder. The work that has to be done before I can release Girder is UI work and a little kernel (conditional event implementation+conditional tree item implementation). This however needs at least a FULL week of nothing but Girder, if you ever programmed you know that fragmented programming doesn't get you anywhere on large projects.
So please no childish flaming as that will not get me to work faster, it will mean that I'll remember your name/ip and simply not help  If it was up to me I'd be programing day in and out to get Girder 4.0 finished and into your hands but allas life ain't a fairytale and getting a degree comes first.
If people are really interested I can release the current state of Girder, however I'm not claiming that it is usable nor stable, the UI might even change completely still. Consider it a sneak preview.
Thanks for understanding.

Dear Ron,
I'm sorry you took my question has "childish flamming". I was just asking by curiosity. It didn't meant to bother you at all neither force you to work on it.
In fact, girder is far better than what I was expecting from it while I was downloading. Tho it's a totally different kind of program that people usually use, it's very easy to understand the "how to use it" once you get the idea on "how to set it".
(Tho I'm a bit stock on a part, when it comes to disable some parts and reanable others when pressing a button)
So, I want to congradulate you for your hard work. As a small programmor myself (mostly BIG e-commerce and currently working on one in full flash) I know it's hard to make everything as with want them to be.
Also I wanna thanks gumidek from bringing us the MSI Remote Controller dll and plugins to use it.
So for now, I wish you good luck in your science project. Atleast giv us feedback on your result okay?
Have all a nice day!

Dear Cygoku,
Sorry I didn't want to imply that you where being childish, this guy (http://www.girder.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4887) was being pretty darn annoying.
I'll let you guys know when I finally get my degree. :-)

Sorry I didn't want to imply that you where being childish, [...]
;) I'm glad to hear that!
By the way, basicly, what is your project? What will it or proves? Are you trying to prove some thoery or something like that?
Hey is there any small biography of the girder author? & what suppose to be inyour av?

My project ;-) The title of the thesis is:
Simulation and Experimental Measurements of Two Dimensional Ion Flux Distributions in Inductively Coupled Plasmas
In laymens terms I'm trying to optimize a plasma etching reactor to produce better yields by simulating and verifying and from this get a better understanding of the parameters involved. A Plasma etching reactor is used in the integraded circuit (IC) industry ( think Intel, AMD, TI, etc... ) to etch out our beloved pentiums and athlons. The thing is that a plasma isn't uniform in the reactor thus producing good pentiums in the center but the outside might be worse.
Here is the results of a measurement that I did a few minutes ago.
http://www.girder.nl/images/export.png
Before experts start flaming me for a lowsy reactor, keep in mind that this is an experimental reactor, not a production reactor.
As you can see the plasma is 10 times as strong in the center than it is on the outside of the wafer. This measurement I now try to reproduce in a simulation. Fun stuff ;-)
I hope that makes things a little clearer.
(wafer = slice of silicon from which the IC are made )
Other then that I'm a Applied physics student at TUE (http://www.tue.nl) (almost done)
This fall I'll start my Ph.D in Chemical Engineering at UCSB (http://www.ucsb.edu).
And a self thought computer programmer. (I started out programming on my C64 some years ago ;-) )
Oh an I run a company.

Well, Ron, Being in school myself, I know how things are.
Not to say the least, even if I'm sticked with a V.3 of girder, the world of PC automation is still fine for me.
When 4.0 goes out, I'll enjoy it... don't even think I would imply you're working for nothing. But while its not released, I think there are still millions of people that are glad of the work you already did on the software.
Even version 3.?? of girder is the best PC automation software around and I think you can take the time you need in order to release a real full version of girder for 4.0, not like some semi-implemented OS that we know ;)
anyway, take care and good research in applied physics!!
On a side note: with your work, will wafers be more even in the future, leading to better ICs?

Yep, if the model that we are proposing works then it can be used to optimize existing reactors in use today by the big chip companies.

My best wishes for ur project, infact my life has also become very simple with usage of girder, just came to know about this and implemented with no much hard work.
I do agree 3.x so best, but new milestone of 4.x needs to be reached as fast as possible else due to competition girder might lose its market name.
Ron may subcontract to their friends like Mark or others in development team, and get invovle more during testing stage to make bug free, I think this will help & gain both ways for RON
Best Luck Ron

This fall I'll start my Ph.D in Chemical Engineering at UCSB.
UCSB has a beautiful campus and Santa Barbara is a nice place with lots of great small restaurants and the weather is nearly perfect year round. I hope you enjoy your stay on the gold coast. You should be here in time to witness our crazy recall election. Last time I read 243 people are on the ballot so that’s going to be like a 10 -15 page ballot.

re. recall election - At least it isn't Florida. Your state may have a chance of ending up with more than 5 valid ballots when the hanging chad are counted. :D
I'm sorry. I couldn't resist the easy slam.

Its fine that youre placing degree amoung your prior aims. So we understand why Girder 4 is late.
But dont you think it is a little unfair to us, users that we come on this page every week hoping for some progress and beeing disapointed every time... for about 2 years now. And what is the worse: we dont have any clue why.
You could have drop a line beneath that progress table as: "currently the development is postponed until... because..."
We would have understood.
... i am sorry for my attack but i still think your behaveour wasnt propper either.

I bet you dont so well as you think you do. Dont compare your few lines proggies in flash with prog like girder... :)
be kind. show us your work

Again, Girder 4.0 had it's last BETA in November of 2002. Not 2 years ago.
Again, read the forums. Ron has stated his situation (his sister's EXTREME illness, internship in Calif, degree crunch, etc.) multiple times. If you come on here "every week" you should have seen these reports in the other forums and you should have had the decency to form questions instead of insults.
Your behavior is STILL not proper. YOU GET THIS SOFTWARE FOR FREE.
I will repeat what I said in response to your insults in this thread (http://www.girder.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4887):
There are things that are more important than building software to give away to the world. Right now, Ron needs to focus on those things. If you don't understand that then I would suggest you should go away and don't come back.
Please pay particular attention to the last sentence.

Perhaps those that wish to complain would like to pay a fee for Rons time and service so that the remaining patient bodies can reap the benifits of those few that don't truely appriciate it.
Ron has made some promises, and is attempting to keep them to the best of his abilities, and as time allows, however, he does not live for you. You enjoy a product of his design that he voluntarily allows you access to.
Don't spoil it friend. Piss him off, and everyone loses. And when that happens, there will be a lynch mob looking for you and others that think you are the only one that matters. IT"S FREE SOFTWARE! LET HIM MAKE HIS LIVING AS HE SEES FIT!

I fail to understand how you're being "screwed". Ron has no obligation at all whatsoever to you.
And I seriously doubt being obnoxious and insulting will get you anywhere.

welll, first of, I remember that girder 3.2 was implemented last summer... girder4 came along after that... 2 years you say?
then, girder 3 have all the fonctionality you can dream of, and more. We are not "waiting" for the girder 4 to do our tasks... Girder 4 is like a bunch of cherry on a huge cupcake.
Now last I remembered, ron told us that the girder 4 was to be released "in the future" with open discussion about the development and no date "because development is long and everyone is busy". Most softwares are not even discussed at the stage girder 4 is right now, feel lucky
then, girder is a freeware, if you feel that anyone owes you anything for waiting for a freeware then you are a fool... unless you paid for girder 4, I don't know why WE should bother for YOUR complaints.
everyone and their little brother agree that this piece of software is a masterpiece, and the 4th version is just a reengineering of it that had no promise, as you are just a teenager that thinks the whole world owes you everything. I'd use my head if I was you and I'd think a little more about the whole situation... unless you want to program it or buy it, nothing belongs to you nor is owed to you.
capiché?
Is it time to say goodbye yet?

Ron has better to do then deal with insulting uncomprehensive members... lol

Yeah!
I'm active on about five boards. And even if I post more on other boards (as Girder is only a part of my interests in this world), the girder-forum is my favorite. It's more pleasant for me, than any other forum.
Sincere thanks are given to all.
