Sad news--I just posted this on the AVS Home Theater Computer Forum and thought the few Girder/Slink-e users should know.
Arrg. There are likely only a few forum members using Nirvis' Slink-e for IR in/out/routing, cd MegaChanger control, etc. I've owned one for several months and have found it to be one of those unique and rare devices that gets you wondering how you ever lived without it. In a sad bit of news on the NirvisList Yahoo Group, Nirvis' David Aue announced:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nirvis Systems has recently completed a deal with Microsoft. They have purchased the intellectual property to our Slink-e, CDJ and DXS products. Nirvis Systems has maintained the right to continue manufacturing, improving and selling these products.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Several NirvisList members have speculated that the Nirvis technology might be used for this product (http://www.pcformat.co.uk/news/detail.asp?id=30803).
It really makes me all warm an fuzzy inside to know that someday soon, Bill will release a product that controls my home theater while secretly monitoring what programs I watch, what I do when commercials come on, what CDs I listen to, what DVDs I watch, etc.
The saddest thing in all or this is that when M$ has decided that there is no market for their new gadget, you can kiss the technology behind the Slink-e, CDJ, and DXS goodbye.
And regarding "Nirvis Systems has maintained the right to continue manufacturing, improving and selling these products." yeah right.

[EDIT] I just noticed my post was missing the Microsoft HomeStation link from the "Several NirvisList members have speculated that the Nirvis technology might be used for this product (http://www.pcformat.co.uk/news/detail.asp?id=30803)" sentence.
