View Full Version : controling your PC via a bluetooth palm device ?

I have the opportunity to buy a cheap Palm Tungsten T and I would have loved to be able to control my PC(s) with it, especially since I'm going to build a small epia-based mini server for P2P, routing, connected to my TV + stereo for instant media playing.

With a bluetooth palm remote software to browse through my MP3, divx, photos It would have be so nice :) (ability to launch MP3s without turning on the Tv or monitor, no more need for embarrassing wireless keyboard/mouse, and compared to my ATI remote there's still a lot of advantages : nice color screen, touch sensitive, smoothpointer displacement, customisable controls...)

Unfotunately there doesn't seem to be any software of this kind available. I saw some Apple remote control software for bluetooth palm, but nothing for windows. Maybe i'll try to code it for myself :) I think Palm did a JVM for their tungsten models. Still don't know what would be the best : doing exactly what I want (browsing through my mp3, divx list, mouse + keyboard simulation.... ) or maybe writing a girder plugin ! that would be much more open, but maybe less efficient than a dedicated remote software ?

The www.NetRemote.org project does this type of thing with other handheld devices using 802.11 connections and the Girder Internet Event Server plugin. I don't know how much effort it would require to make this work on a BlueTooth network instead.

Netremote works with Bluetooth too (it is fairly network technology agnostic)... but it won't work on Palm machines, as it only supports PocketPCs and Windows machines

thanks for your answers, i took a look at netremote which seems to be exactly what I was seeking, unfortunately on another platform.
Too bad. I was wondering how much work that would represent to program this type of remote on a palm...
