Try downloading the Winamp exported group and look at how this one works. Maybe this will get you started with the helpfile and the online helpfiles. Feel free to ask if things aren't clear.

 I can take a hint, I changed the scheme, I'm not yet happy with it though.

White/Gray is pretty difficult, i can only set 1 set of colors. This has to work on dark blue, light blue and light grey. This makes the choice of colors pretty limited... How is the current scheme ?

Welcome to Girder.

Yours is a very broad question. With a bit more information, someone can probably help easier.

Girder's main purpose is to take IR events (button presses) and use those to control PCs and the applications that run on them.

What do you want to control with your IR remote and Girder? A specific Windows application? Which one?

I'm sorry for the questions but Girder is very powerful and can do so many things, it is hard to give advise without a target in mind.

Hello Jim and welcome to the Girder forum.

Unforunately, there isn't a master dictionary or FAQ for Girder or this site. I'm pretty sure Ron wouldn't mind if one was developed, though.

As for the two terms you mentioned:

SLink-e (http://www.nirvis.com/slink-e.htm) is a universal IR transceiver that also supports X-10 and S-Link (Sony's wired remote connection). Here is a thread (http://www.girder.nl/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=235&forum=2) about Girder support for this device.

UIRT (http://people.a2000.nl/rwvgesse/FixFrame.htm?Uirt.htm) is THE Universal IR Transceiver. This is a home-brew IR device. There is a member here who made a batch and sold some of them for no profit. I bought two from him and they work great. Here is a thread (http://www.girder.nl/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=409&forum=3) about this device and Girder support for it.

I wasn't born with this knowledge. Instead, I used the hidden  search function of this forum. On MY display, the search function is in the top-right corner of this page. The color scheme makes it difficult to see but the link is there.

I don't have an IRMAN nor Cinema-7 (and a search with cinema in it turned up only YOUR post) so I can't help with your immediate problem. Sorry.

Aw, Ron! If everyone can find the search feature, how are we supposed to look brilliant?

Yeah, this red/yellow on blue thing is pretty unreadable. How about white/grey on blue?

It works for me.

I'll extend his question. I want to control PowerDVD, Winamp, and Windows Media Player 7 and WinME OS.

I have been searching for an INDEPTH "hot-to" to do this.

For instance; how to "Play" in WMP7? Even the mundane steps would help for us newbies (well, I am the newbie and really want this to work...)

Thanks

I guess I should add that I want to do this by a remote control...

I feel pretty much the same way as the thread author. I'd love to have all the otherwise mysterious terms defined (slink-e, uirt, etc). I have girder going and managed to use the Packard Bell and IRMAN remotes. However, I REALLY want to use a universal remote like the Cinema-7. I cannot get the IRMAN receiver to output anything from that remote though. Any Ideas/help?
Thanks
Jim
