Hi KoolKraut,
a long time ago, I tried to do the same, but using an Irda receiver for remote controll just doesn't work to well. If you know how to hold a soldering iron you might want to have a look at http://www.heise.de/ct/00/18/208/default.shtml where you can find a cheap (around DM 10,- plus housing and kabel) and easy to built IR receiver that works quite well.

I read about Girder in a german computer magazine (C'T) and decided to use it.
To expain my Problem, I begin with the settings:
I have an Asus A7V133 Mainboard to which I connected the ACTiSYS ACT-IR210L.
I tried diffrent hardware-plugins and found "IrDA", "UIR/IRman" and "Generic Serial Support" reciving codes (thus working).
I also tried diffrent remotes but I always end up with the same thing:
The code Girder "learns" from the remotes almost never "returns". What i want to say is that learning a button and then using this button has no effect because the code recived differs. The best result (holding the button down) was the code was repated afer 20 seconds or so.
Addition to original post>> If found out that when I'm in "Generic Serial Support" mode and change the Baud rate, the codes recived differ also. I don't know if this is normal or if it's a clue, so i addet it to this post! Please help.
I'm not verry good in such IR things so I wonder if there is a possibility to find out what is wrong. I suppose, Girder learns the code before the "code sequence" has finished thus mixing multiple cycles of the code, but as I sayed, I'm not verry good in this. Perhaps someone can help me or even has the same setup and can tell me which options I have to use...
Thank U!
Sven
P.S.: Please dont' mind my english, I didn't pay attention in school....

Mh! I see, it was a bad idea to try a IrDA reciver.... dawmn this thing was about 70DM. Too bad it doesn't work..... and i bought 2 cause i wanted to control an other computer also...
If anyone sees a chance to get this thing working, please reply, otherwise i wastet a lot of money (for a student ), cause I don't think conrad electronics take theese things back...

It's in edition 20.
The article in which it was was "c't-Projekt: Ein PC fürs Wohnzimmer Sound & Vision Platform".
This is a Hifi component which is build of an celeron 700 with DVD, CDR, and so on, capable of playing DVD, MP3, AVI (DivX), (you can guess that there's no limit since it is a PC and thus upgradable). Furthermore it gan rip MP3, copy CD's, burn audio CD's out of the MP3 libary.... nice one. A friend of mine decided to build a similar device. That's what i need the remote for....
Further articles are:
Test of WinXP
Bluetooth
test of emergency power systems
PDA's and Video
Netware 6
optimizing DSL
(and some other)
Hope that's enough, 'cause I'm not interested in typing the whole mag....
If U 're interested in one of the articles I'll give U some details....
