controlling PowerDVD w/ Palm

The built in IR port is IRDA. Reports from others indicate that these don't work too well with consumer remote control devices.

I wonder if someone know if I can control PowerDVD or other DVD Player in my Compaq Armada M700, with a universal remote control or with my PALM V(using OmniRemote) because the laptop has an InfraRed port built-in.

What software Do I need ?
Does someone knows how to do it ? or where can I find info ?
Can I control it with a standard universal remote control ?
