This is a complete mistery to me, did you try running Girder by hand after windows has started ? Did you change anything in your computer software / hardware ?

Sounds like one of those computer misteries that will never be solved :smile:

HELP!!!

I've happily been using my Nirvis Slink-e with Girder for months now and other than a sporadic shutdown Girder lockups it's been working very well.

Yesterday, a fatal problem reared its ugly head. I have Girder setup to launch at Windows startup. Girder in turn creates a Slink-e object which loads the slink-e server. Now when Girder attempts to launch I get the following error:

Window title: SLINKX
====================

Couldn't create server object
Error code == 0x80080005

At this point I'm dead in the water because Girder halts loading and quits responding so I can't check any of my settings. Not that it should matter--I haven't made any changes to my .GIR file in approx a month. I'm running Girder 3.0.24pre3

I've confirmed that the Slink-e is working properly by starting a seperate instance of the Slik-e Server after Girder reports the error. The slinkesrve loads fine and reports having found the Slink-e on COM1. CDJ; a jukebox application that uses the Slink-e appears to be working correctly. Any thoughts?

Hi Ron,

This has me completely stumped :sad:.

I've tried starting Girder manually and the problem persists. Its been a least a month since I've added new hardware or software. I did relocate all my HT gear, including my HTPC into a rack unit. However, that was a couple of weeks ago and all was working fine until a few days ago.

I noticed last night that my home network connection on my HTPC (Girder machine) was also very slow--it's normally quite fast. All other machine on the network (2 pc's, 1 laptop) were fine. This morning, all seems to work normally including Girder and Slink-e.

I'm sure this will all turn to crap again very soon--I'll post again when/if I find anything to report.

Thanks -- Steve

Not this time :wink:

It turns out the problem was a flaky NIC. I noticed the TX/RX led on the NIC was constantly flashing at a fairly rapid rate. When I pulled the card, Girder and Slink-e started playing nice again :smile: I swapped the card out Friday night and everything's been working like a charm since.

I'd guess that Girder was timing out when trying to find the Slink-e. I can duplicate the "Couldn't create server object" error by turning off the Slink-e or disconnecting the serial cable. I'm not sure why a bad NIC would have slowed comm port activity though. Or for that matter, why launching slinkeserv without Girder would work ok (perhaps longer timeout period??)

Anyway, all is back to normal :smile: :smile: :smile:

Thanks -- Steve
