For full disclosure I'm pretty new to girder so appologies if this is an easy question (I just cant seem to figure it out).
I want to use a remote sitting around my house (I have several, VCR, TV, etc) to work with the MCE IR Receiver (Phillips brand) to control girder. Is this possible? And how?
I tried a standard girder setup with the MCE plugin, but when I try to "Learn", girder only recognizes the MCE remote, not any of the other remotes such as VCR, TV, etc.
I have a Media Center PC and want to continue using my MCE remote as it is configured with MCE, but I want another remote for "extended" functions (controlling other programs).
Any ideas/suggestions on how to do this? Am I doing something wrong?
(remember I am a little new to girder so try to dumby down any responses)

Hi and Welcome to Girder. I think the receiver for the MCE will ONLY recognize IR commands from their remote :(. Unless someone knows otherwise...

Really? That sucks if that's true... I thought I saw something somewhere where someone mapped another control to girder via the MCE receiver but I cant seem to find it anymore...
Anyone attempt this and know for sure?

Actually now that I've thought about it this doesnt make much sense...
The MCE receiver has to accept other remote codes. Media Center actually "learns" codes of your remote within the Media Center application so that it can change the channels of your cable/sat box.
So somehow the hardware receives/accepts other remotes, now whether or not theres some plugin or software solution within girder thats another story....
Anyone got any ideas?

The remote learns commands to control your cable box. As far as I know their is not IR emmitter with this that learns commands and sends them out from your pc... but then I don't use MCE :)

Use the USB-UIRT as your receiver. This supports the MCE and just about any other remote out there.

Any tips on installing USB-UIRT? I cant seem to get this installed right. Looks like it requires drivers to be installed for the IR receiver (I'm using the MCE IR receiver) - but I cant actually install the drivers because I want the MCE IR receiver to work from within both MCE and Girder (using a different random remote such as from an old vcr, tv, etc)
If I try to use just the USB-UIRT without installed drivers, as you might guess, I get a nice phat error.
Are there any plugins that let you use the MCE receiver to accept any IR signal (from any remote not just the MCE remote) without special drivers that will probably disable the MCE remote/receiver from working within the MCE application?
REALLY stumped on this one... Any Girder Geniuses out there???
