Shameless plug.

Modified by Ron,

[snip out advertisment]

I said this before I'll said it again, no plugs here.

There is a difference between users
giving advice about what hardware to buy and
sales people coming in here and blatently
advertising their own hardware. If you want
your product noticed here, send me a link and
i'll add you to the link-list on the girder pages.

-Ron

Welcome to the Girder forum.

You can use any old remote. Use the Search link at the top of this page and look for IRMAN OR go here (http://www.evation.com/irman/index.html) to see the hardware. This is a relatively inexpensive IR receiver that plugs into th eserial port of the PC and Girder can use it great.

Good luck.

EDIT: added Evation link

Hi, i've known about girder for a while now, but havent used it before and was wondering if i could use any remote together with some kind of ir receiver that plugs into a serial port to control things like Winamp and WinDVD through Girder?

Or should i just buy a remote like the REALmagic DVD remote control /w ir receiver and use it like that?
