After quite a few emails, I managed to get ATI tech support to fix an annoying problem with the ATI Remote Wonder XP drivers. They did a very good job and the fix works perfectly with Girder.

The problem was with the ATI Remote Wonder XP driver and ACPI. Before this update, any ACPI call would corrupt the ATI (X10) driver. These events include sleep, switch to battery, standby, hibernate.....

Once corrupted, the driver still works properly UNTIL you try to unload it by shutting down Girder. At this point Girder wont shut down for about 5 minutes as it waits for some response from the corrupted driver. After a few error messages it does finally shut down. Usually a reboot is required to get Girder to load again. Similar behavior occurs with uICE and ATIs own software.

This problem made using Girder on a laptop annoying since so many ACPI evets are generated, BUT they fixed the problem with the latest release of drivers.
