Hello, i just got my usb-uirt in the mail, and after I installed drivers and plugin, i clicked on the plugins tab and highlited my device then hit settings, that brought up window titled "usb uirt driver" and then i hit the learn button, that gave us a window with two meters and instuctions on how to learn a button from the remote, we tried it and success!i even hit the test button and it changed the channel!
but i need to know:
a: is that the correct way to learn each character from each remote?
b:how do assign each button i learn?
b: do i assign each learned character to it's own key press or is there a shell or gui?
any info you could share would help alot!
thanks in advance

a. yes.
b. yes, each ir code you want to learn must be learned to a command and then send out by triggering that command with an event.
BTW, Glad to see you got your hardware and are making progress!

the getting started page is meant more for HTPC and users with some prior knowledge with Girder, and that and the forum are my only source of information...
so is'nt there a way to explain those things? i only have hands 2 hours a night.
so try to be a little more detailed please?
thanks in advance klumb

The concepts are the same.
For each IR code you want to learn, you have to add a command and learn that command from your remote. You then will have to learn an event to trigger that command. You can rename each command using the F2 button so you can keep track of them.

You then will have to learn an event to trigger that command.
do you mean hitting the "learn event" button?
when i do that, it says its "waiting for IR code"
What I'm trying to do is learn the codes from my cable remote using Girder and UIRT device. and from there i want to assign a keystroke to each command, f.e. i want to hit the "U" button, and the cable would advance a channel.
i think im learning the remote codes correctly but im racking my brains trying to assign a keystroke to each ir code i learn.
i believe i have the concept down, but i just need to know how to do it.
thank you in advance

Right, you are gonig to learn your IR codes to a command via the plugin screen. Then, you are going to learn the event (a keyboard press) to trigger the command. Make sure you have the keyboard plugin selected from the settings/plugins page. I would recommend using the extended keyboard plug on the plugins download page as this allows you to block keys that you press from reaching other programs (you only need to do this if you are NOT going to have Girder as the foreground application).

okie doky,
I learned the channel 3 button, then enabled the keyboard, then there is two options for the learn event "Girder event" and "All"
which one of these to i choose?
