View Full Version : Saving IR Codes

I've installed Girder on a new machine and used an old .GIR file without issue. However, the one thing I have run into concerns the UIRIRMan hardware plugin. Changing the "IR Speed" setting (Settings -> Hardware Plugins -> UIRIRMan -> Settings -> IR Speed) slider causes Girder to interpret IR codes differently.
Is it possible that you adjusted this setting and taught all of your codes to Girder? If you later did an OS reinstall or a Girder uninstall/re-install, the IR Speed setting would now be at its default value, which would cause problems with codes taught at a different IR Speed setting.

Hi,
Is there any way to save the IR codes?
Are they stored in another file besides the group file?
I can save the commands, but each time I reinstall the OS, I have to re-learn the IR codes.
Thanks,

Hi,
I did save my .GIR file. The .GIR file only seems to save the commands, and not the Learned IR codes. I have to re-learn the Remote. It's not hard to re-learn, just a pain.
I lost a lot of data at one time when my system crashed. I don't want that to happen ever again, so I keep my data on a seperate drive. I keep the .GIR on a different drive.
I install and delete alot of programs, so a reimage every 6 months works, instead of trying to troubleshoot programs that act erroneous.
I am currently running XP, which hopefully will last a couple years???

Hi,
I am using the IRMan.
The Plugin I use is the irserver.dll.
Girder works just fine. No problems.
I was wondering if anybody ever attempted to save the .GIR file and delete/reinstall Girder and be able to use the remote without relearning the Remote?
If this is true, then there is a problem on my end. I see one person that responded had the same thing happen, but it is unconfirmed.
I do see the code, I think, but the command didn't respond to the remote. That is why I was forced to relearn the remote.

Hi,
I don't have to fiddle with the settings. I just plug it in and it works. (I am using the IRServer. Not the UIR/IRMan).
I might have mucked around with the some setting, when I couldn't figure out the right plug-in to use.
If you didn't have a problem, then it must be on my end. The next time I wipe the HD, I will try again.
Thanks for your help,

Cholland, What hardware plugin do you use for your ir? As Wykat says, the actual ir codes are stored in the gir file so could it be some other setting you have that causes the codes to be different. Sounds unlikely but I can't think of anything else.

Hi too,
I think I had the same problem too, but Ron told me that the IR code is in the .GIR file (you can open it with a text editor and you see it). Therefor saving the GIR files should be enough, but I haven't checked again. I may have switched between 2 different receivers at that time which could have caused the problem for me.

The obvious answer to this problem would be to keep backups of at least a few files from your machine before you go blowing it away and reinstalling the OS. The .gir files that contain all your configuration info are quite small and will fit on a floppy no problem.
